Insurance Approval Question

Recommended Posts

I am about half way through the insurance approval process. I have about 5 months of weigh ins, my psych eval, and dietitian meeting completed. I still have the testing to complete. I should be finished with all my requirements by the end of July. I am just curious, in other's experience that have been approved by insurance, is weight lost before surgery highly important? My weight has fluctuated during the last 5 months at about -+10 pounds. I'm having a hard time losing weight (well, obviously, lol!). I'm just worried that I won't have lost enough weight to get approved. Any Advice?

It depends on your dr. If you haven't lost the weight, my dr won't preform the surgery. Have you seen a nutritionist? My nutrionist put me on a meal plan and I've lost 18 lbs so far. I've been on it for 3 weeks. My pre op appt is Wednesday the 27th, at 9:15:)

Yes ask ur Dr. And nutritionist .. also a get life style change is the 17 day diet ... it not a real diet, just better choices. The book is like $12 a Walmart following the food for each day. I lost 15 pounds in 17 days.. also a light workout would help.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
