I am 7 weeks post op lap RNY and feel like a failure already. Although I lost 56 pounds and have another 55 to get to goal, I have been unable to drink the required fluids and barely get in enough Protein. I know i am probably muscle wasting now, which defeats the whole process!

I developed a stricture at 4 weeks that had to be dilated twice, and had an incision infection that was cut and drained last week. I feel like I am regressing instead of progressing!

Any ideas on this Protein and Water issue? I have spent hundreds in different protein powders and shakes and they alm make me vomit! I cant eat a meal three times a day, i just take a bye or two if food when i can throughout the day. I do take my Vitamins daily. I havent even started exercising yet and feel guilty!!!

Any one going through yhis? Any suggestions?

I recently tried Blue Diamond Unsweetened vanilla Almond Milk for the first time. The first taste I had I was thinking BIG mistake. I was almost ready to pour it down the drain and then I wondered what it would taste like if I added some Splenda to it. The difference was like day and night. Really, really delicious. It's thick, creamy and almost as rich as a milkshake. 50% more Calcium than milk, 40 cals for an 8 oz serving, but unfortunately quite low in Protein - 1 g per serving. So now my plan is to get some unflavored Protein Powder and mix it with the almond milk. I'll let you know when I've had a chance to test it but I suspect it will be quite good. You might want to give it a try. Keep in mind too that you can mix unflavored (or flavored for that matter) protein powder with just about anything that you like to drink. I like Pure Protein powder and shakes but as you know, there are tons of options out there. Good luck and let us know how you're progressing!!

Definitely not a failure. But u gotta make more effort, not implying u don't now. And exercise. Only because it will help with your bones and loose skin.

I really like the Muscle Milk Light. It is lactose free & they have a few different flavors. I buy the premixed ones in bulk at costco. They are 20 grams of Protein. Other Proteins to try that were easy for me...baked Beans, cottage cheese, sunflower nuts. Also try the Bariatric Advantage website. Lots of protein supplements out there. As far as liquids....sip, sip, sip all day! Carry a water bottle with you everywhere!

Keep your head up...you'll get there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
