I had my first fill on 1/24. I've lost 35 pounds and I'm feeling great!!!!!

However, today was my first solid food after the fill and I only ate a small amount of tuna and got a terrible feeling in my chest. Has anyone else experienced this?? :D

Congratulations on your progress!

I do have a question for you. Many people say that they have trouble losing weight before they start to get fills because, once they heal from the surgery, they are hungry again and have no significant restriction. Did you find that you did have restriction before the first fill? Or, if you had no restriction, were you able to lose weight just by "dieting"?

Any info on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

marj9,

I think everyone is different. I am hitting 5 weeks and can eat as much if not more than what I was eating before the surgery. I've lost only 17 lbs or so but I'm pretty dang proud of it. Even though I do get the pain when the food is going down and I can't eat that fast, I can keep eating all day. So maybe it depends on the person. I am going for my first fill next week and can't wait. guess we'll see what happens.

Lots of luv! Alice

Sounds like you might have took too big of a bite. My doc said the size of the tip of your pinky finger. Take your time, small bites and chew like mad. Congats on your weight loss that's alot...good luck:hungry:

yeah, my doctor told me the same thing, but I keep forgetting and I've tried to take bites like I normally had. Then when the pain begins I smack myself and remind myself to eat SLOOOOWWWW. ha! Its all a new learning process.

Yep, I hear ya. I keep forgetting too. Tonight I was out eating and I just grab the Water and drank it. I wasn't thinking. It's really something we all have to work on. All these years of doing it and now we have to re-train our eating habits.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
