Hi, I live in Pensacola too! I'm actually going to Mobile for my GB. I don't know anything about the Dr. at Baptist. And I refuse to pay almost $800 in adminstrative fees to see Dr. Lord at sacred. When none of that money goes towards a deductible. Strictly out of pocket. I'm gonna see Dr. Weinstein on July 3rd for my first consult. Good luck and keep me updated.

Tami

He is the founder of that practice. His partner dr ringold is who did mine. You picked the best practice. Had it on Tuesday and he said it was textbook perfect. You will be very impressed. Good luck.

I'm so glad to know that. How are you feeling? How long did it take for you to get your surgery date from your first consult? I might have more questions for you, but I don't want to bombard you. Since you just had surgery.

Don't blame you for going to mobile! I live in Panama city beach so even the 2 1/2 hour drive to Pensacola sucks big time! My fee for Dr. Friedman is only $250 and I have read nothing but great things about him.....not so much for Dr. Lord......anywho....good luck to both of you!

Hey Tami my gurgery went great. Im 4 days post op. Still hurting some on left side. Bearable though. It took me about three months from the first pcp visit to surgery. Lots of requirements from provider and ins. It will be worth it.

I'm so glad everything is going great!! If you don't mind me asking? What requirements does the provider need, other than what ins. requests? I Anthem BC/BS and my two main requirements are Psych and Nut eval. Everything else I've done or have done. So i'm hoping the process will be fairly fast. My PCP is sending my records and they should be there when I have my first consult. I'm 2 days smoke free and just wondering if they test you and how long they require you to be smoke free. If you happen to know. Thanks and keep me updated on your recovery.. Tami

The provider has you go to the "Begin" class. It explains all about what you eat prior to and after surgery in detail. Then the do a short health fitness. Then if your over 300 pounds like I was, you have to go to a pulmonary dr for approval. Also EKG ,X-ray, blood work, upper Gi, ultrasound. All of which I had in one appt. the thing is you can't do any of this until you have already been approved. But it's all worth it to have the best in the area.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
