Hi! I am 8 days post-op and am located in the Yucaipa/Redlands area. Had the bypass on a Monday and went home on Friday due to my high heart rate. I am an avid reader wanting to learn as much about this new journey and have a local pal to chat with over the highs and lows. If you are close and looking for someone local for support please feel free to contact me. Thanks for reading!

I'm sitting on my arse and waiting for my insurance to send me to a surgeon who they will actually cover for the surgery.

So far, I'm zero for two on that bet.

the first referral I got ended up being a Dr that my insurance didn't cover, ( even though the insurance was the one that sent the authorization for said Dr)...it took another 2 months for me to get an authorization for another Dr. Hang in there, I swear they do this ish on purpose to discourage people from getting surgery.

Oh, I'm sure it's all about trying to get people to give up. I'm a stubborn fat lady, though. They've picked the wrong evil old lady to mess with.

Hi Linda: Will you be going down there alone? I am traveling alone down there. It would be nice if you would want to meet up before hand. Let me know, I work in Chino, but live in Corona which neither is far from you. It would be nice to have a buddy through this process. Let me know if you are interested, Jill.

@@Jilly69 I live in Rancho Cucamonga and I'm having surgery with Dr. Ortiz on June 30th as well!

I'm having to change providers, and thus my PCP, in order to even HAVE surgery.

Has anyone here used Dr Troy Lamar for their surgery? I chose a particular PCP because he and Lamar both are in the same network. It was pretty bass ackward, because I chose the surgeon based on his taking my plan, and then chose my PCP from a list of doctors who are also on it.

(I can't help but think of the Simpsons character Troy McClure when I think of or say his name. Is that bad?)

FWIW, If you have Preferred IPA for your provider and you're still waiting on approval, make sure your capitated hospital even offers Bariatric surgery. My former capitated hospital does not, although PIPA kept insisting I find a surgeon who performed it there

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
