And I had a drain but it came out before I left the hospital. Mine was to collect Fluid and do a dye test (ech) for leakage before I left the hospital.

You're not crazy I'm still in lots of pain 3days out. I can only stand or walk for a few minutes. I have a binder which helps a little bit. I have a big pannus so gravity isn't helping with the pain.

Belle,

I'm 7 days post op today. And as they all said it does get better. Yesterday I wasn't so sure I wasn't dying and today it feels like Charlie horses in my sides when I get up:) I put away wash. Took a nice long not painful shower and attempted to lay down in my bed. Yea, attempted and failed! Can't get up easy enough. But at least I can walk, talk, laugh and cough without wanting to cry!

When you guys are up to it, walking usually helps with the post-op pain. No lifting, but walking is a good thing. You don't want to get carried away with it but a little more each day has helped a lot of folks.

DL I walked, walked, walked right with the pain! I'm so absolutely petrified of any readmission or blood clots!! At least 3 times a day around the block if I couldn't make it further.

Good for you!! Don't push too hard. It's all about "lifestyle changes" and getting and staying active is, I think, a big part of it. When I first started walking it was often a chore that I had to force myself to do. Then somewhere around three months or so of walking at least four times a week (more if possible) I suddenly discovered that I was addicted to it. If I don't walk for more than a couple of days I get irritable I can feel the difference, not only physically but mentally as well. Now I really look forward to and my black lab loves it even more than I do!! LOL!!

I found the pain to be more than I was expecting when I got home. I was just completely miserable. I had to take pain meds daily. I'm on day 11 or 12 and i still can't sit up for long periods of time. But it does not hurt as bad to laugh, so something is healing.

I can't lie flat I sleep sitting up. If I lie flat it hurts to get up. Hell week is truly hell week

I was in a lot of pain too when I woke up from surgery. I was very upset no one told me it was gonna be like that. I did not have a drain bag, I had 6 holes due to complications while he was working on right side I started bleeding really bad on left so he made extra holes when stoping the bleeding. All in all I would do it again though I am nearly 4 months post op and down 68 pounds, I have way more energy and no knee and hip issues anymore!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
