MMREMTP 1 Posted June 8, 2012 Greetings all... new here and wanted to say Hi. Been 12 years since my gastric bypass and doing great. Pre surgery I was 377 lbs and am currently at 220 lbs in size 34 waist. I am finally having my skin removed off my abdomen on June 25th and am really excited as it should put me closer to my goal of 200lbs. The confidence having the surgery and the weight loss gave me the confidence to move on to RN from paramedic 6 years ago along with being promoted to Admitted RN Manager and advisor to our new bariatric department. Feel free to ask me anything about the surgery, side effects, regrets (none) :-) , or life since the surgery. Take care all and hang in there!
mignonsmom 28 Posted June 8, 2012 How much does it cost to have the skin removed? I am assuming it is your apron . I am 3 weeks out from my 2nd RNY 16 yrs ago 425lbs now down to 225lbs. I had a fistula so the new surgery is harder than I remembered. I am hoping to get down to 180lbs for Christmas 1 MMREMTP reacted to this
Melsauve 76 Posted June 8, 2012 Wow congrats! Sounds like you did excellent. Is insurance paying for your surgery to have the skin removed or are you paying for it? 1 MMREMTP reacted to this
MMREMTP 1 Posted June 8, 2012 Thank you... and you can do it! Sounds like your doing great! yes, insurance is paying for the apron removal, but said I may have a problem getting them to pay for my chest to get done because I am a guy. Not impossible, but it seems like u could use the same reasons woman use for having it done... one would think anyway. :-)
atcgoddess1 37 Posted June 8, 2012 How long will your recovery period be?
lynn 49 Posted June 8, 2012 Congrats and u would think insurance would help u with the chest issue. I am only a week out but asked insurance before even having surgery about getting extra skin removed aka apron the lady told me that one is not a problem but if i need other skin removed i would have to have a medical reason .... rash or always getting yest infection under skin fold or whatever. So my understanding i will get my apron removed but in my case a boob lift will be out of my pocket. Well i think my husband can pay for that. 1 cookier224 reacted to this
MMREMTP 1 Posted June 8, 2012 There... finally figure out how to add a profile pic lol anyway ... the recovery will be two weeks. 1 week with drains in and a week later I can return to work. What worked for me was recorded history of back pain over 10 years and the weight removal would help... plus threw in some skin issues. LOL wish my wife could pay for mine... she does the benefits here at the hospital. :-)
lynn 49 Posted June 8, 2012 Well when i was pregnant with twins i told my husband he will owe me a boob job and a Tummy Tuck cause those kids messed up my body. I do love my monkeys but they messed up my body. 1 MMREMTP reacted to this

ChatCat 24 Posted June 25, 2012 Good for you all around! Takes a lot of work and dedication to go back to school to be an RN. I have an EMT friend who was going to do that but changed her mind - lots of work! Best of luck on your surgery.
