Pain in esophagus, anyone relate

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I am new to the site. Live in Texas. Had my surgery in April of 2006 in Monterray, Mexico. I was a borderline BMI case but a chronic yo yo dieter. Not healthy. Down to goal this month which was 55 pound weight loss. I have had no major problems other than overeating and being miserable for a week or so. Had gallbladder removed in August and irritable bowel syndrome since unfortunately. But gotta ask. Ate some pecan pie on Dec 26th and popcorn same day. Haven't recovered since. I am experiencing a weird pain kinda like it creeps up from the band up my esophagus. Its not constant just sometimes when I move a certain way or bend over or soemthing. My local physician thinks I should just remove the band but I know that I will eat and gain. Anyone else have anything like this?? I don't have a local obesity doctor. Been back to Mexico one time for a fill and that was all I needed. HELP HELP

Cynthia

Local doctor knew nothing until I had the band then when I had to have gallbladder removed he did alittle research. He would rather I remove it. Erosion could be what I feel definately not slippage. Its a sensation I have not experienced before. I take prilosec or pepcid AC at night, doesn't feel like heartburn. I am thinking I will need and upper GI. Thanks

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
