Tried To Go Back To Work

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was my first day back, 6 hr shift. After 1 1/2 hours I was exhausted and sore. Thank goodness the rest of the night was slow. I woke up exhausted and in pain. I was hoping at 3 weeks out I would be okay.

I had surgery on a Monday and was back to work the following Monday. I have a office job I worked 1/2 days in the office and went home at noon and worked from home in the afternoons. I did that for the 2nd week and by the 3rd week I was back full days. It was difficult, I cannot afford to go on disability since they only pay 66% of your salary. I used my vacation days for the week of surgery. It took a good 6 weeks for me to feel totally OK. I am 8 wks post op and feeling really good, unfortuantely I have to have my gallbladder removed on 6/26 the same surgeon is doing this surgery that did my bypass, he said he will use the same incision sites. Just when I was feeling 100% I have to go under the knife again and back to squre one - arrrrggggg.

You will feel better as the weeks pass :)

I used FMLA for my time off. I work in surgery and 6 hours is a half day for me big I think it's too soon.

I feel you really need the time off to heal but unfortunately some of us cannot afford to do that, I really wish I could because I would have been off the whole 6 wks they allow for this surgery :( It took me 6wks to feel 100% after surgery.

Well went back 1 day this week and called out yesterday and today. The pain is so bad it's going into my back. I think my muscle layer is pulling where my trocar sites are. Saw the nut again and he says I am doing ok but might have lactose issues :(

Hi army wifet, I had lactose issues for the first few days and it wasn't pretty. I'm ok with yogurt, but I do lactose free milk and cottage cheese and it seems to help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
