Dr. Ross did my sisters surgery as well! He's in the same practice with Dr. Johnson who I chose to do my surgery.

Did your sister do well? My sister has lost 140 in a year and couple months. She is doing great!

I live in Boiling Springs SC & Dr Scott in Greenville did my surgery, he's in with Dr Bour. I had gastric bypass May 9, 2012. So far since my surgery I've lost 35lbs. I walk 2.67 miles every day & ride the exercise bike 2-3 times a week. My weight loss has slowed down & I've only lost 5lbs in the past 2 wks. It seems to come in spirts. I'm having nausea & pain this past week since I started the solids phase 1 diet. I think I've pulled a muscle from being so violently ill this AM. Hopefully it'll be better in a couple days.

I love their office! They have been fantastic! I started the process in Dec 2011, I went for an information seminar. That day I signed up to be in the program ($250) which I started in January. I had to attend 12 mandatory classes. I went to the morning ones because they counted as 2 classes. You can go to more in one day if they're different topics and if I remember correctly there are some offered twice a week. I'd have to look to be sure back at my class schedules but seems like I remember going more than once a week. Then I had my psych evaluation and visited the surgeon. My paperwork was submitted to my insurance and I had an answer of approval in a week. Had my presurgery diet classes with weighins and did Optifast for 4 wks, had my surgery May 9. It all takes time and I'm glad it wasn't rushed because its a big decision and they're great to help you through the process. The support groups are great, everyone is wonderful and we can all ask each other questions and help get each other through. I also enjoyed the cooking classes and recipes. They have a store there too where you can try samples and purchase products which I liked because eveything is right there when you need it every time. I don't have to drive all over looking for stuff or wait on it to come in the mail. I've never had to worry about running low on my Vitamins or Protein Shake mix. Dr Scott is wonderful and so are the nurses and Meg the dietician! They all make you feel at ease and I'm very happy with my going forward and having the surgery. Depending on your insurance and their requirements it may not take you as long to go through the program. Some insurances want 5 yrs of weight records and 5 months of weigh ins. Every insurance is different but they'll help guide you through. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. :)

Hi seiko! Congrats on getting your date! I'm seeing Dr. Prickett on sept 21st. And then they submit paperwork to insurance. Not sure though if he gives me a tentative date or if I have to wait for the approval. Are you nervous at all?

I'm a lil nervous. I just want everything to fall in place and come out health on the other side. But I'm excited. Still kinda holding my breath til everything is set in stone.

Yea I know what you mean. Did you already get approval frm your insurance company? I'm worried that I won't get approved and am on this crazy emotional roller coaster. What pre-op diet is your doc putting you on and have you started it?

My insurance doesn't cover the surgery so I'm self pay. I'm refinancing my house and waiting on that to go through. The diet is like high Protein low Carb. Lean meats veggies fruits and milk with 2 Protein shakes. I haven't really started yet but trying. I don't see the dietitian til Oct 4 but I'm trying to work on it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
