Well it's one day post op. of course I came home 16 lbs heavier, and it was tough going from a morphine drip to Percocet , and all I do is sleep, drink, get up and move , go to the bathroom and then back again to sleep. I think so far I am actually doing good, and so glad to be home. Will try to keep everyone updated :).

I'm really sore but have been off my pain medications for 2 days. I have my 1 week post op diet in the morning and I hope they move me up to stage 2!

So is it normal to put on a lot of weight at the hospital? How much is normal and how soon does it go away? What causes that?

Yes, I put on 10lbs! Even with the pre-op diet. I think it's normal and due to anesthesia and IV fluids.

I gained 8lbs in the hospital. It comes off fast. I've lost 25lbs since I've been home (2 weeks tomorrow).

I feel pretty good today. Still sore and have gas pains, all bearable . Still taking pain Meds. Walked about a total of 30 mins through the house today, plan to get outside tomorrow and walk for 15 mins each time, only been able to walk for 5 mins at a time. Overall I feel like I am doing well

I am home from hospital surgery was June 5. I'm very sore like someone kicked me right in the sternum. I also have noticed a rash and have a slight temp100.3 should I be concerned

I had a slight temp the first couple of days to, just keep an eye on it. The sternum feeling was same as me, most likely bloating gas from Anesthesia. My surgery was 6/4. As of today, less bloated and less pain all the way around. If you have pain Meds. Take as directed for at least 3 days. Most of my pain was the day I came home and next day. Good luck and keep posting

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
