I Had Surgery A Week Ago! Shocked.

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe it.

Still feels like a dream to me. I keep telling everyone.. I wish someone would have really told me how difficult the healing process was actually going to be. I have been having sever gas pains in my chest, back, etc. It's been terrible. Praying that this is the worst of it, and that it passes. I'm still exhausted, been having a lot of anxiety, worrying that, 'ill never be able to eat again..' and almost as if I have forgotten why I even did this. Is this normal? Wondering-- why I didnt go with the 'sleeve' because the recovery would have probably been easier?

Just venting a few things. Any advice would be great!

The gas is the worst part, and it does pass. But i remember it was very painful until it did. The rest of the healing is easier. Just follow the rules.

I'm just starting to eat normal foods carefully and it's all good. But now I have a small taste and eat slowly. The eating slowly is a challenge for me. Already got food stuck once and that is not an experience I'd like to repeat.

By the way if you had the sleeve, gas would be the same, but if you got acid reflux, that would get a whole lot worst.

I have alot a gas too it dose suck .....plus i haven't had a real bm yet which is because i am swollen at my small intestines which really sucks but dr says if thats the only side effect i am having i am still lucky and in 3 months it will all be worth it. So try to get all fluids in and look at the light at the end of tunnel.

I found that walking really helped the gas. Even if your walking around your house get up and move. My fiancé made me walk everyday I was so miserable while doing it. But the one day I didn't walk I was in agony. I thanked him a week later for getting me moving. It really is the best way to get rid of the gas plus does help get the bowels moving too! Good luck ladies keep up the good work:-)

I actually had the same problem with the swelling in my bowels. :( while I was at the hospital, so they kept me a little bit longer. That was a painful experience as well. Specially' since it refrained me from passing anyyyy gas, or bm.

I've been tryin to walk as often as possible. But still feel real weak. Still on Clear liquids.. not getting enough Protein. Hopefully tmrw at my one week post-op appt, ill be released to full liquids. Were any of you sent home with a drain?

Thank you for the information I'm going to keep what you said in mind. Was it painful to walk? And how was your energy after sergery?

Sometimes it was uncomfortable and a little painful in the beginning. I used to take breaks while I walked because I would get tired fast. I would say it took to week 5 till I got my energy back. I was glad I didn't have to go back to work before that cuz I was constantly exhausted. Make sure your drinking cuz if you aren't that also can make you tired. I'm still struggling with dehydration.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
