fluffylady 27 Posted June 4, 2012 Had all my pre op testing today. Had to have an upper GI. Dr told me I have a hiatal hernia! Is this something that they would cancel my surgery for? Is this something he can repair with my surgery? I'm so ready for this and don't want a set back.
robynshaw 6 Posted June 4, 2012 He can repair it during surgery, no big deal. I have one also that is getting repaired. Just make sure it is in your file that they will repair it at time of surgery.
KevinsBabyGirl85 364 Posted June 4, 2012 My friend had one and they fixed it when they did her surgery and I don't think they would cancel your surgery for that!
fluffylady 27 Posted June 5, 2012 Thanks guys. I'm going to give them a couple of days then call the dr office and ask. I'll let you know what happens.

berniec 166 Posted June 5, 2012 I have one too. My surgeon said it was very mall and it might correct itself from the weight loss. Also he said a lot of over weight people have them. If its not that bad they might not have to remove it. I used to have pain and spasms but since the weight loss it hasn't bothered me. Good luck on your surgery. fluffylady 27 Posted June 6, 2012 I called and they said he will fix it at the same time as bypass. I Should not even tell the difference.

BBdoodle 483 Posted June 8, 2012 I had a upper GI prior to surgery which the report said there was nothing and everything was good for surgery. When I saw my dr. after surgery the first thing he said to me was "you had a hiatial hernia" which he removed/fixed. The dr. will take care of everything while he is in there - no biggie.
