aBetterRay 17 Posted June 4, 2012 June 7th here! Hard to believe the day is finally almost here Congrats on the June 7th date. Everything goes so smoothly at Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital. I've stayed in hotels that weren't as nice. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Kellylynn and I were hoping to see you before you go in, but I understand there is a bit of illness going on over there, and Kelly is super susceptible to anything right now with the chemo treatments... Ellie_Grace 271 Posted June 4, 2012 Ray, Erin had the stomach flu but I made her stay away from the house until she was better. I know that makes me a horrible mom, but when she posted she was sick I asked her to stay at her future apt until she was no longer sick. I could not afford to get sick the week of surgery either. (we did bring her stomach flu type meds and food, but Nick took them up and left them outside her door) Maybe we could plan on meeting somewhere other than the house, if you are concerned still. Erin is rarely home, what with her doing all that pre-wedding stuff. But she is all better. I am starting to get nervous, more that something will stop it, rather then the for the actual surgery, but there is a bit of that starting as well. 1 berniec reacted to this
aBetterRay 17 Posted June 4, 2012 Kelly is really limiting her contact with anything. Just after starting here chemo, she caught a bug, got sick, and had to do 6 days of antibiotic infusions at the hospital to clear it up. Plus, when you add a cold or flu to the chemo effects and her battle with Lupus symptoms, she is taking no chances. She really hates this aspect of the treatment, please understand that. She puts on a mask when she is out, and we wipe everything down with antibiotics cloths. This is the routine for at least the next few months. It does not make you a bad mom for keeping illness away from your home this close to your surgery. Very wise decision. You want to avoid ANY possible complications. There will be time later. I was nervous about my decision to have the surgery, right up to the last minute. For me, the bottom line was KNOWING that I needed more than will power and dieticians to make the changes I needed to make. Short of having my jaw wired shut, I needed a tool, something that would force me to make better choices. The threats of increased health problems and early death was not enough to alter my food addiction. It's a radical solution, and it's not a cure, but it's the best chance I have at dealing with the situation, and I feel real good about it now... 1 berniec reacted to this
Ellie_Grace 271 Posted June 4, 2012 I totally understand about Kelly. She needs to focus on her health and protect herself as she goes through that process. I just hope and pray it all works and she regains her health at the end of that process. Cancer is a scary thing. I wish my sister could have chemo so she could get better and not be looking at dying in the near future, but if she could and got it I would protect her from everything the same way you are doing for Kelly, no need to apologize. I feel the same way about the surgery, it is my last chance to fight and get healthy. I know I can do the right things for a few months on my own but it never lasts. With this tool I hope it helps me to maintain my goals to eat healthy and be active. I am just tired of being tired and so desperately afraid of getting cancer like my sister, which is one reason I am having this surgery. Doctor told me that this will help lower my risk for the cancer: with this sister that's dying, another sister, aunt and a grandmother all having one form of cancer or the other I am seriously concerned. I want to live to see my family grow and be there with Nick for as long as possible. I want a life worth living! How is it going for you?
