berniec 166 Posted June 3, 2012 I was a heavy smoker prior to my surgery(April, 23) . I stopped smoking the day before my surgery. So far I am smoke free. If I'm trying to get healthy that's another thing I needed to do. Also the smoking can cause ulcers.
TinyMamiOf3kids 1,280 Posted June 3, 2012 Don't smoke. I was a smoker 2 years ago. Stoped & best decision ever.
Panda 354 Posted June 3, 2012 My doc said NO SMOKING cuz it messes with the lining of your pouch and causes ulcers. He actually won't even do the surgery if you haven't been smoke free at least 4 months. And he tests Sent from my Nexus S 4G using RNYTalk
tstevens28 9 Posted June 3, 2012 My DR said same thing.. No surgery if I was still smoking.. And now to even stay away from 2nd hand smoke.. All can cause painful dangerous ulcers for your new pouch.. Sorry.. 1 stephane0603 reacted to this
jemma 7 Posted June 3, 2012 I quit smoking with chaotic before surgery and stayed smoke free till about a month after surgery and made the mistake of starting again im now almost 3 months out and I'm still smoking I've gotten an ulcer which at first was very painful to say the least. I've tried using chantix again but it doesn't work now. Just burns the heck out of my pouch. I felt much better when i was smoke free.
Tammy483 162 Posted June 3, 2012 I haven't smoked yet, but the urge is too damn strong. I stopped the night before the surgery and the cravings are too hard to resist Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
purpleamy 7 Posted June 3, 2012 Ask your doctor if you can wear any of the Patches. The ones that help you stop smoking or the gum.
Tammy483 162 Posted June 3, 2012 Ask your doctor if you can wear any of the Patches. The ones that help you stop smoking or the gum. I haven't smoked yet and I don't want to be dependant on Patches or the gum. Was just wondering of other persons experiences.
