I Have A Beef With My Doc!

Recommended Posts

First I'd like to say I totaly respect my doc as a doc. I'm six days post op and will see my doc on Wednesday. The day I came home I was in major pain. I got the scrip filled the he wrote whitch was hydrocodine. Unknowing to me I was allergic to it, had increased heart rate and major throbbing headache. I only took it once not again. So when I woke up I called his office and he returned my call within five or so minutes. Told him my problem and said to add children's Tylenol to it. There was no way I was going to take hydrocodine again after that experience. After six or so hours later still in major pain I had my mom call him, and again he called back quickly. I don't know if he realized I could not take the pain med or he thought I wanted something stronger whitch is not true, I just wanted something I wasn't allergic too. He talked down to my mom and wouldn't wright a new scrip said Tylenol would have to work. On to this Wednesday when I see him I want to go off on him. I paid around $25000 out of my own pocket and this high and mighty doc wouldn't wright me a scrip equal too the one he wrote I'm allergic to. I'm pissed. I'm doing fine now where Tylenol is suffient but those first few days home were very tough. What do you think I should do? Tell him off? That's what I want to do!

I would let him know how I feel. I think it was a misunderstanding. He did call you back in a timely manner.

I'd tell him just how you feel! I had a problem with my surgeon and when I spoke to him at my first post op apt I explained to him my frustration, face to face, he was more than understanding and very apologetic. It's easy for them to brush your complaints off via the phone ... Face to face is a bit harder. Write out all your symptoms, frustrations, questions and request.

I can appreciate your frustration but I would resist the temptation to vent. Your surgeon is the one person that knows more about your surgery than anyone else and you're going to be under his care for at least a year. That could be a very long year if the relationship is strained. I second bernie - talk to him, explain your concerns and listen to his explanation. You always have the option to change doctors but I would exercise that option only as an absolute last resort. Like I said, he's the surgeon and knows more about your case than any one. I also have worked very closely with my primary care physician since two weeks after my surgery. I've been seeing him for many years and I trust his judgement completely. The physician's assistant at my surgeon's office wrote me a prescription for a slightly low thyroid. The primary said no. The PA put me on Iron for a very marginal case of anemia. The primary said no. It never hurts to have a second opinion - especially when it's someone you know and have confidence in.

Thank you for your comments. I will restrain from going off too much but I will ask for an explanation politely. It will still be hard to excepted. I've lost 40 lbs in three weeks, starting with the two week post op diet. First week post op 22 lbs. eventhough I'm really PO'd , it does bring a smile to my face. I will let you all know how the doc meeting goes.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
