I need to lose 20 lbs by my pre op date, june 27th. I started my diet last week on Monday. NO rice, Pasta, fast food, sweets, teas or sodas.I did excellent throughout the week and I lost 2 lbs!! Yesterday, I went to my sisters house and slept over there and I ate BBQ, twix and today I had 2 slices of pizza. I feel so disappointed w/ myself and feel so guilty for cheating. I just needed to vent, any helpful tips or comments please feel free to leave. Any advice welcomed, Thank you.

I will say to you what others say to me. Don't be hard on yourself, it took us along time to get where we are. Changes will not happen overnight. Tomorrow is a new day and it will be a great one.

You are not the only one who has messed up. You can do it. :-)

I have to say I have been very hard on myself. I started liquid diet 2 wks before surgery then a week before only Clear liquids and I lost 16 lbs.

The point of losing weight before surgery is to shrink your liver. If your surgery isn't until 6/27 you still have time to continue to lose by cutting back on your calories via cutting back carbs, sugars and fats. Start eating more Proteins, veggies and fruits and supplement your daily intake by substituting one meal a day with a Protein Shake. That's what my nutritionist has me doing. You've already kicked yourself in the pants so now it's time to turn it around and do what you need to do to make the surgery as safe as possible for yourself. So from now on when you want something that isn't a good choice...ask yourself...is this worth the chance of my liver not being in the best shape for surgery? Helps me every time.

I'm going to tell you a secret. I love eating & soda. When I started this diet April 30, 2012. I had soda once and it was only because I had gotten KFC for my 2 year old. Don't think I drank the entire cup. I had maybe 4 sips and I never had soda again. Soda isn't healthly even for a person with no weight problem. One time ok but one day then the next day. Don't repeat it,and keep with your diet. Think that you will be healthly soon, but if you have in mind you will only eat it once then the next day when you have surgery would you think the same ? Get your mind off food. Being healthly is better then being over weight. I'm sorry that's how I feel. I want you to think about it maybe surgery isn't what you need now. Some people just need a nutrionist to help them learn to eat,and not surgery. I have a friend that's really thin, and she was over 200lbs but she has a nutrionist. She has kept the weight off for over 3 years.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
