I'm 4 days post op , I'm feeling good but I have one question . I know I'm supposed to sip all day so I don't dehydrate . How long should I wait in between sips? Because I feel maybe I'm sipping too quick and I get pain in my belly.

Hey John! There's a learning curve with your pouch. I think pain is the pouch telling you to slow down a little - especially since you're only 4 days post-op. The trick is trying to get all the fluids you need - usually 64oz a day is recommended. That can be especially challenging early on since you're probably not hungry. Keep in mind that 64oz doesn't have to be all Water. Protein Drinks, broth and any other liquids count toward that goal. So everyone is a little different and you'll probably want to experiment and find what works best for you in terms of getting the fluids you need - while avoiding any pain.

I read in the book Weightloss Surgery for Dummies that we should take a sip of Water every two minutes all day long in order to get all the Fluid in. But, we're all different right after surgery and our bodies react different. If you're getting stomach pain, I agree with DL you may be drinking too quickly or maybe too big of a sip at one time. Slowing it down or smaller sips maybe help you. Good luck and hoping for a quick recovery for you :)

I had that to, and doctor pointed out that I was also swallowing air, and that was cases problems for me. - this was at day 2-3 while still in hospital. He Sid for me to breath out before swallowing, that way I wouldn't take air down to my new tummy as well.

I feel like I am learning to eat and drink all over again. I thought that some of my problems was the food I was eating however I too get the pain only drink info Water.

So what I hear is smaller sips and wait in between sips.

Any other recommendations?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
