Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.... Just discovered this app!! I'm 18 days post op, full gastric bypass... and boy am I having a rocky beginning ... barely able to "eat" anything... Still on stage 2 for a couple more days and I'm so tired of all the sweet shizzz ... I've been sticking to pudding and sweet Protein shakes.... Can't wait for stage 3!!!!!!!! My surgery was rough... Spent 5 days in ICU, 4 blood transfusions and my tummy was giant bruise.... Needless to say I live every day in fear of my complications.... But the name of the game is POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!! .... Happy to have found this board... I joined another one but i like that I'm able to do this from my phone!!!! Look forward to jumping right into the convos now!!!!

Welcome to the group.. 4 blood transfusion. OMG!! I hope it doesn't happen to me. I had one blood transfusion when I gave birth, but if it happens it's ok. I'm a positive person, and I believe everything happens for a reason.

Thanks!!!! & mami, my experience isn't common ... Have no fear!! Just drink plenty of Water before!

I thought the day of surgery your no suppose to drink water. I'm suppose to only drink liquid all day then after 12am no drinking at all.

LOVE your attitude. I truly believe that so much of RNY and really health in general is attitude. When you can stay positive in spite of the rough start you had - nothing can stop you. You're gonna love the new you!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
