High Protein/low Card Linked To Heart Disease

Recommended Posts

I was reading somewhere that a high Protein low carb diet could eventually lead to heart disease and that scares the crap outta me because heart disease runs in my family. I also had an abnormal ekg stating that I had a previous heart attack before I had my rny surgery, and just recently had another abnormal ekg that came back I had long Q intervals, but I went to the cardiologist before my rny in January he said that my ekg came back normal and everything looked fine to him.....My problem is I keep having these weird headaches and chest pains and today I was putting up a new curtain rod (screwing it into the wall) and I kept getting this weird pain in the left side of my chest like a pinching pain and then I got really sweaty but as soon as I got down from the step stool I started feeling fine.....so that is confusing enough huh?!? I'm thinking maybe I have vertigo or something I have no idea but it looks like I will be making a follow up appointment with the cardiologist soon! Any suggestions are welcomed because I am completely clueless!

Also I should give you a little background history on me I'm 27 years old, I have 3 kids, 2-6 year old twins (boy/girl) born early at 37 weeks by c-section (who will be 7 on sunday), a 5 year old boy also born early at 35 weeks and also by c-section. When I was 23 I was hospitalized for bilateral pneumonia, was on life support for 21 days, they didn't think that I was going to pull through and when I did the dr's were amazed and thought it was a miracle. I had to stay in the hospital a total of 47 days, 7 of those days were spent outside the hospital in a rehab facility because I had to relearn how to walk, talk, eat, etc. it was not pleasant. During that time spent in the hospital I had a few surgeries, 1 for a trachea (bedside trach didn't work), the 2nd one was to put drain tubes in place, and the 3rd one was to go in and scoop the gunk out of my lungs because they wouldn't drain and I was told the gunk in my lungs was close to the consistancey of Jello only thicker. I then was diganosed with asthmatic bronchitis, sleep apnea, and GERD. Since surgery I have not used any of my inhalers or my stomach meds. But now I'm having this set back so I don't know what to do!

Also during the time in the hospital they told me that I was weighing in at 310 lbs because of all the fluids in my body and that my heart rate was going up into the 200's. I do also know that I had a central line that had gotten infected and had to be taken out and moved but they accidently put it back in the same side instead of the other side. I have also had a cardiac cath where they cut your groin and run something up that main artery and put dye into your heart and I never had heart problems til after that!

High Protein diet is linked to heart disease but only because a lot of Proteins are linked to high fat. But since we are to eat lean cuts of meat and skinless meats...low fat dairy and everything else...there goes your factors linking high Protein to heart disease out the window. Plus I'm sure they meant over a long period of time. I think we reintroduce carbs somewhere around 6 months....maybe sooner. I can't remember exactly

Vamp, I'm with Panda on this one. She's right. It's not so mucn the high Protein, but the HIGH FAT Proteins. You might ask your Dr. to order a Coronary Calcium scan. It's painless, takes only a few minutes and it shows the state of your coronary arteries if thers is any blockage. I had mine done last summer just to be sure, and I'm 57 years old and it was clear. Might just put your mind at ease.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
