DL, since so many people want a copy of this list perhaps you should make it a thread so everyone can share it?

- Kaylee Ann

Kaylee, I tried to post the file but forum rules do not allow you to post/attach an Excel file. Vamp is a graphic guru and she created an image that has been posted on the forum under the thread "Protein, Protein, Protein". You can see the list but you cannot edit or add to it. The only way I've found so far for folks to get the file is to email it. Have a great day!

As far as I have read these shots are not the right kind of Protein for us

Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

Tammy, I'd love to have any links or sites that you may have that talk about this. There seems to be a lot of talk on the forums about it but the reviews are mixed and anything but conclusive. Haven't been able to find anything on sites like Harvard, mayo, WebMD, IOM or ASMBS. One post said her nutritionist does not recommend it because the protein is collagen based which is inferior to other types of protein. But others say they love it. New Whey says it was developed for bariatric surgery patients but they obviously are biased by financial interests. Most folks seem to agree that it definitely does not taste good. I've never used it so can't offer any opinion. Thanks!!

Thanks to Tammy for the heads up! Her research and my own today both confirm that New Whey may not be the best way to go. It contains collagen protein. The subject of protein gets quite complex but collagen protein is one of the worst according to a ranking system (PDCASS) endorsed by the World Health Organization and the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences. The high protein/low volume of New Whey is attractive but not much good if your body cannot absorb the all important protein. The following is the nutrition list for New Whey which strikes me as very carefully worded and that raises some suspicion as well.

Ingredients Pure Carbon Filtered Water, Complete Protein Matrix (DS Proprietary Blend Of Collagen Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Casein Protein Isolate), Natural And Artificial Flavors, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Acesulfame Potassium, Sucralose, Red 40. Contains: Milk Lactose Free Complete Source Of Protein Containing All Essential Amino Acids For A Balanced Diet. All Ingredients Meet Or Exceed Pharmaceutical And U.S. FDA Specifications Where Specifications Are Listed.

I'm not crazy about the strawberry either. Their Peanut Butter is not bad but that chocolate deluxe - wow.

Tammy, you can get a lot of this stuff on Amazon as well and in some cases at a much better price than the health food stores.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
