New And In Need Of Support

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I'm writing on here because I'm in major need of support. I've fallen off the band wagon on weightloss and started to gain weight back again.

I'm almost at my 3 year post-op "birthday" (May 27th) and up until recently had lost over 100 lbs. The lowest I ever got was about a year after surgery, going from 287lbs to 150. Since I've met my husband and gotten married I feel like I've blown back up again, teetering at the 185-190 mark.

I no longer have my weightloss binder (stupid of me) and I would love some support from people who aren't going to judge me because I did the surgery. Please help.

Oh, and I have an appointment this Friday to speak to a dietician again for the first time since the surgery almost. Any tips on exercise and just, what to eat... I could really use the info. Thanks again.

I'm a little confuse. You had the lap band removed? I'm sure with a dietician you will get back on track & lose weight again. Think positive. You are sure your not pregnant?

No, sorry I didn't clarify, it was rreally late when I posted.

I had the ruox-en-y surgery done and I'm almost positive I stretched the pouch out. I'm also positive I am not pregnant seeing as my husband is out to sea 95% of the time lol. (Navy wife).

I'm seeing a dietician because I have to go through all of these channels with tricare prime, I haven't had an insurance that would allow me to keep up the doctors visits for follow ups.

How long have you been out of surgery? Or have you had it yet?

Oh ok I understand now. Well with a dietician you will have control over food so that's always a great thing. My surgery is 5/30 I'm so looking forward to a life change. In this pre-op diet I learn self control. Just imagine I cook 7 days a week 3 meals a day,and I'm sipping a shake LMFAO... while everyone is having a juicy pork chop, and some rice, and Beans with salad. It's ok we used to make microwave popcorn movie theatre butter, and watch movies or regular TV. Now I can make the popcorn, and get full by smelling the popcorn while I have a diet snapple follow by a sugar free pudding. Girl it haven't been easy, but guess what I want this surgery, and I'm willing to go threw it all for a better life. Well almost eight thirty AM I have to make Breakfast. Will try to get back on over the weekend & if not after surgery.

Mami: congrats and good luck on your surgery!!

I remember that diet, I only drank Water and carnation instant breakfasts, still made dinner for a different boyfriend, and did it for 9 days instead of the 7 required lol.

It has been totally worth it and I can truthfully say the surgery has changed my life for the better in every way. Good luck and keep in touch!!

Vamp: no... I've never heard of that, how do you do that????

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
