I am 3 weeks post op. I feel strange at times very overwhelmed, then angry, then sad. I am very frustrated with food. Things taste good one day and the next not so much. Anyone else feel this way sometimes?

You know what I'm on this strict diet & I feel like that. Angry moody & everything you mention. I do think it's due to the fact that I'm not eating fried food & my delicious to e so I'm mad but I try not to think about it.

Anyone else feel like this before or after diet?

I found that it used to use food as a coping mechanism, and a way to deal with emotions. If angry instead of showing it I would eat. Same with sad, frustrated, lonely, stressed, and even happy and celebrating. When you take the food away these emotions are raw,... And i had trained myself to use food instead of expressing them.

Could this be a possibility in your case? I know that's what the pschologist said can be the case are helping me thru that stage.

food was my best friend for so long and now I don't have it anymore. It's a mourning process. Trying to find a way to replace it with something positive.

So far emotionally I have been ok. But the likes and dislikes are crazy. I'm the same way. I used to love coffee now it's not too appealing to me. I think it takes time. Your taste buds are going through a change too.. My surgery was April 23rd.

Hello, I am almost 5 weeks out and I have been having the same feelings. In just the short time I have been feeling better. When you get to the point where you get to add more foods it does get better.

Thanks. It's nice to know that I am not the only one with these feelings. I do think I used food to cope at times. It understood me when so many didn't. The wrong way to handle lifes dramas but what can I say. I am trying to deal with all of the new changes but I am very overwhelmed at the moment.

I'm 4 months post op I have those feelings a lot. I have to remember that there is a goal that I'm heading for. One day foods will taste good and other days they make nauseous. Its frustrating. Sometimes I feel like I should eat the samething everyday to avoid any nausea.

The irritated feeling that I've been having don't help anyone in my household....Lol I hope those feeling go away.

I have been feeling the same way.

I read up on it and it it's because we aren't getting seratonin in our diets anymore.

My advice is to hang out in the sunshine and know that the initial phases aren't forever.

Best wishes!

Amy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
