I find out tomorrow if I have to start any special diets with surgery coming 6/6. I've already been substituting 1 meal a day with a Protein Shake and I've found that using Capella flavorings has helped change up the shakes a bit and makes them more exciting. Being able to have fruits and veggies will be good to help change it up too.

As long as you can eat you should be fine. Straight liquid is the worst.

Liquid is challenging........find Soups that you like. Cream of mushroom, egg drop, Trader Joes has a nice instant miso Soup that I love. Refried Beans are the bomb....water them down with broth. Switch up the shakes and soups, so that you can get sweet and savory. I'm almost done, surgery on Thursday, and although I'm doing fine, I'd just like to have a nice sammich or something lol.

Can't wait for tomorrow at least then i can go for a walk instead of sitting with the family at the dinner table watching everyone eat...... as a family we have always sat down and ate so camping gives me an excuse not to.

Family dinners around the table are a wonderful thing but perhaps everyone would understand if you took a *temporary* sabbatical? Anything that makes it easier for you to stay on track is a good thing. You'll be back at the table with everyone enjoying the new you before you know it!!

Probably would be easier but wouldn't want to see the mess that my twins would leave if daddy was in charge of the table

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
