I love this thread....

My pet peeves are bold faced liars.

The word a lot has been a pet peeve for awhile now. I was taking some college courses one instructore specifically said that a lot was 2 words. I could not believe how many people continued to spell it wrong.

People who drive the wrong way in a parking lot then give you a dirty look as if you did something wrong.

People who bump you in a store and don't say excuse me or I'm sorry.

If you go to visit someone and they think everyone in the room thinks their children or animals are as cute as they think they are. Then allow them to climb all over you or hit you or become a nuisance.

I love childen however, my children are grown and I do not have grandchildren. I don't enjoy having a child continue to climb on me when I have asked them to stop. While the parent just sits there saying nothing to the child.

I am not a pet lover, I don't care if other people have them but I don't want them climbing on me, licking me, putting their butts in my face, and I don't like animal hair on my clothes.

And last but not least....

Going into someones home and having the smell hit you in the face when the door opens

Smelly bathrooms that need to be cleaned.

People who have animals but don't take care of them or the messes that they make in the house (IE) Messes on the floor and Nasty Cat boxes that should have been dumped days ago!!!!! (Unfortunately these are one from people in my own family).

Oh my...each post is making me think of more pet peeves! The thing with the cute kids--I was going to post that earlier but didn't. It really bugs me when parents show off their kids in a public place. For example, sitting in the doctor's office and the mom is reading to the child, asking questions in a loud voice so everyone can hear how smart their child is. "What color is that? Blue? Ooh, you are SO smart Caitlin!!!" It's sad that the parent is so insecure that they have to be validated through their children.

On the other hand, it peeves me when parents put their children down in public. When my son played soccer, there was a dad who would yell things at his son like "You keep your head down...you should be ashamed of how you're playing" throughout the game. The kid got very little, if any, positive reinforcement from the dad.

Here's another pet peeve!!!!

I think you should give your kids encouragement when they need it, build their self esteem, make them feel loved and appreciated. I also think that building them up with false positivity is harmful. There is a difference between you can do and be anything you want to and you can behave anyway you want to. I don't see anything wrong with saying you can do or be anything you want to be. However, turning them into self centered, egomaniacs, who never think of anyone but themselves, and never take any responsibility for their bad behavior makes my skin crawl.

I hate it when people walk off from their shopping cart in the grocery store. They leave it right in the middle of the aisle and go look for something!!! I always watch them... and while they aren't looking, I push their cart as far away as I can and then move over and watch the fun!!!!

They sure feel silly when they turn around at their cart is missing!!hahahaha

Thank you T.O.M.!!!

Just an observation of a few issues that have been alittle too close to home.

Yup, I'm inclined to agree. Especially with the observations concerning other people's kiddies. I never had any of my own because I am about as maternal as a snake but there are children whom I quite like. These would be the children whose parents have raised them to be polite and sensitive to others in addition to being intelligent and curious.

Ducking out on the discipline thing because you love your children and you want to be their friend instead of being a parent is doing your children no favour in the long run. They grow up to be selfish maladusted egomaniacs and you, as a parent, never will get to retain best buddy status with your kiddies. This is only normal; children do require their emotional and intellectual privacy and should be growing up with and growing old with their own peers.

I have lost a few friends due to their invasive parenting techniques. These would be those well-educated, affluent folks who start their families when they are close to 40 years old. They can do some pretty nasty stuff to their little over-indulged little treasures and then they insist on subjecting their mild mannered childless friends to these kidzillas.

One of my friends, a woman who was deeply in denial about the behaviour of her daughter years after I found it evident that the kid was a brat, finally humped the horrid child off to a psychiatrist who was a specialist in ADD-type disorders. The expert interviewed the teen at some length, called in her mother and said, 'there's nothing wrong with your daughter. She is horribly spoiled is all and now she is probably too old for you to fix it.' I know this because the kidzilla's mum told me all about it.

Of course I have seen lovely kids who are trapped in living situations which are intolerable because their guardians are doing a lousy job of it and that peeves me. In the case of my husband's nieces this is because their parents happen to be a pair of kidzillas who carelessly went on to have children of their own. Now the parents are snarled up in an interminable divorce brawl; the divorce has been going on for years.

Okay, I have one. LIZARDS! YUCK! They are so gross and disgusting and vile and ... icky!

My last two days for showers have not been great. Yesterday I realized my stomach is more gross than ever and today I go to get in the shower and saw something squiggle on the window. AAAHHH!!!! A LIZARD! I did as anyone should do and screamed. Since I was alone in the house that didn't really help, the lizard just turned to look at me.

I was very proud of myself. I got a cup and a piece of cardboard, caught it, ran as fast as I could to the front door, threw it out the door and screamed again.

It's getting hot out now and the lizards are coming out from wherever they squiggle. YUCK! Ewwwwwww, oh they are just gross.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
