South Beach Diet Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

So today is day 4 and I am dying. I like my carbs. I feel like crap too (headache and no energy). I am giving up and adding back some carbs (just try to be smart about it). I weighed and I haven't lost anything, so screw it.

The important thing about carbs is to have the right ones. Do you know about the gylcemic index?

I think it really is the best way to eat with the band. It's a very healthy way to eat.

Nobody has posted in here for a while, but just wanted to say that my doc required phase 1 of the south beach diet to help prepare me for surgery and shrink my liver and I've already lost 5 pounds since Saturday. AND, I feel fricking fantastic. I was a HUGE breaditarian... I've only gone two days in my life without carbs and I was miserable, but this time, I was able to do it.. I've been eating: chicken, salads, green Beans, string cheese, tuna, scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, peanuts, pistachios and much more... it's been wonderful. I have more energy than I ever have.. I litterally reconstructed my closet and was on my feet all day yesterday from 7am till midnight and was fine.. I couldn't believe it. I hope my liver looks good next week when the doc goes in.... and I will continue with this diet. OH, not only that, my two skin conditions are oddly clearing up. I've always thought I had an allergic reaction to sugar cane sugar... and my face is clearing up and oddly my psoriasis is too...

Yea Im kind of doing south beach. I have been eating those darn little Cereal bars and now Im completely hooked. I promised myself that once this box is gone Im not buying them anymore because I cant control myself. There no longer a healthy low calorie snack if your eating 3 of them a day. :cursing:

I have been basically doing South Beach the entire time I have been banded. (Except for the times when I completely lose it and binge on sugar) It's a very healthy way to eat. I don't think going completely carb free is healthy. The main place I do get my carbs is from fruit or high Fiber

whole grain cereal. I think it's the perfect way to eat, in my opinion!

So, I know this is an old thread but I recently so a couple of people post about this diet. I myself have used SBD in the past with great success (losing the weight, not keeping it off...I am a bandster after all). I'm just over 1 week post-op and plan to this diet as a foundation for my eating, together with the band I really believe I can lose the weight and keep it off permanently. Good luck everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
