Pneumonia

My surgery is Monday , should I be worried about pneumonia? I am a kidney transplant recipient and I'm getting nervous because I keep hearing that .

I had pneumonia about 4 years ago so bad I almost died! And I just had surgery in January and I didn't get pneumonia I'm sure as long as you follow the rules you'll be fine!

I got pneumonia after my surgery but it wasn't from the surgery exactly. I got up and began walking when they got me in the room and I did great but in the middle of the night I aspirated. I apparently was coughing up stuff but because I was protecting my surgery I didn't cough hard enough to get it out.

I will say that this is the first time that Dr. Lara ever had a patient that this happened to so the chance is very rare. What I stress and they do too is to walk when you come out of surgery as into your room. And walk often in the hospital. You should be fine! I was and am today

They also give you this contraption to exercise our lungs. At first your gonna think its rediculous because your not making any progress. But it really works. Also walk as much as you can. Good luck.

Speaking from the profession, walking and moving helps to move the secretions around. The more you sit, the higher the chance is of getting it. Be sure to breathe with that contraption too. That helps as well to get it moving around.
