Discouraged

Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me get back on track?

I was banded Feb. 06 and to date have lost 80 lbs. But havent lost a thing since Thanksgiving. I have about 8cc in a 10 cc band, and for a while there, it was so tight that I had a problem eating any kind of meat, and would throw up. I didnt want to get an unfill, so I just didnt eat that much, and especially not meat. Now it seems that I can eat anything again, and too much of it! I have heard that if you are too tight for a long period of time, thats when you can have problems with erosion, or slipping, so I am not sure about another fill. Instead, does anyone have any ideas on how I can jump start my weight loss? Any food ideas would be helpful too since the Protein thing can get very boring. Also, does anyone track how many calories/carbs they eat, and what are the correct amounts. I always hear different things. ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!! :help:

Are you exercising? I know for me that I need to start doing that again too. I"m stuck at the same weight loss since mid-Oct. and i know what you mean about being discouraged.

Some bandsters don't believe in this but it works for me. I go back on Protein shakes for 1-2 meals a day. That keeps me full and they are only 200 calories each. I then eat a small dinner. Besides exercise and Water I would say you should try it.

Julie, I do this too. It really does help me get back on the right track.

I've completely stopped losing weight since my last fill. Is it possible I'm too tight? I've had some problems getting things to go down, but I can still eat fairly large quantities of soft foods. I've been the same weight for 4 months!!! I'm ready to scream.

It depends on what you are eating. Since you say you are eating soft foods, you might be getting a lot of calories in there. My dr's motto on fills is..."I'd rather have you eat a bit too much chicken then be overfilled and eat too much ice cream (mashed potatos, high fat Soups, or whatever fill in the blank)"

He says being overfilled drives bad behaviors and I agree this was true in my case. He said he's seen time and again people who are overfilled who gain weight or stop losing.

If you can't get at least some hard Proteins down, you are too tight and probably eating around the bad. A very small unfill might get you back to the sweet spot so you can eat what's right.

Just my .02

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
