You had gotten a different type of surgery?

I'm trying to decide. Honestly, the thought of dumping if I eat sugar sounds awesome. Because I'm a big sweet eater. Its like a spanken, lol.

Spanking Lolz.., so freaky..

This will be awesome for me cuz I'm not a big candy sweet eater. I do love my Spanish rice. I cook so damn good. To bad I'm nit going back to bad habits.

Sometimes I wish I would have gotten the sleeve because they don't reroute everything with that!

Yeah, I'm so not interested in the band at all. At. All.

It's now between the sleeve and rny.

I could be wrong, but it seems like rny people get quite a bit tinier. I was looking at before and afters in obesity help and I double clicked all the ones that were super tiny and they were all rny, one somethingthatstartswithad switch. Maybe they just don't have that many sleevers there.

Still thinking. What is the benefit of not rerouting?

The sleeve is less invasive than rny and has less complications with the exception of leaks, leaks are more prone with the sleeve although you can still get leaks with rny. My friend has the sleeve and she said that she has food come up in her throat sometimes and I was told by the np that if you already have acid reflux or gerd that getting the sleeve could make it worse but rny basically makes it go away and I can honestly say that I haven't taken my nexium since the day of surgery and I had gerd before I had rny!

I haven't taken my gerd meds either. The day after surgery my doctor told me not to take it. He said I probably wouldn't be needing it. So far I haven't needed anything not even tums. Thank god.

wow.. well, I don't have issues with that- that's not to say i never will. I'm so torn. it really does seem like rny patients get tinier, and i want to be tiny FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, but what about the mal absorbtion i hear about?

how did you guys make your choice?

gah! I'm meeting w/ them sometime super soon.

I was going with the vertical sleeve until my doctor told me emphatically I'd be much better off with the R.N. Y. because of getting rid of my diabetes; which is my main reason for having surgery in the first place. That's how I made my decision. I know it's not much help. Whichever way you decide to go I wish you luck.

My doctor says the rny is the one you loose the most with. I had the lap band in 2009 and had the conversiln to rny april 6th of this yr. And in 5 weeks ive lost 41lbs. I NEVER lost that quick with the band and he said i wouldnt loose that quick with the sleeve. In the end the rny is the best choice if u need to loose alot of weight. I will never regret this. And the risk of complications is a chance you take with ANY type of surgery. Its worth it to be healthy :)

I lost about 30 lbs the 1st month after my rny and my friend is almost 1 month out from her sleeve and she's lost about 28 lbs.

The malnutrition says with you for life that's why there is such a dedication to Vitamin supplements. At least that's what my surgeon says. Also, being currently banded seeking revision, there are not enough long term studies for the band. Best success documented is RNY. But it is a difficult decision to make and knowledge is power.

My decision was made by the surgeon as I got acid reflux. That's gone with RNY, and would hv got worst with the sleeve. We need supplements for life either way. I was told that there is more documentation on RNY, as sleeve is relatively new.

And just out of interest, the surgery centre I went to only one surgeon could do RNY as its more specialist. The other three surgeons there could do lap bands and sleeves, as they were more general surgeons not bariactric surgeons.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
