My name is Jeannie and I live in the seacoast area. I had my surgery on Sept 19th and It was the best decision I have ever made. My results so far have been close to 50 pounds. So if you're considering doing the lap-band I say go for it. I've had lots of support and that's key, without it I don't think I could have done it. Well I wish you the best of luck, and keep on truckin':)

hi booper, I have recently had lap-band surgery and it was the best thing I could have done for myself, the best advice I can give you is stick with it. Give yourself this wonderful gift of a new beginning. I've had my moments, but then I look in the mirror and say WOW is that really me? keep up the good work and I wish you all the best.

Hi J. I am so glad to hear from you. My name is Sunshine (really). I am an Oncology Nurse at Lakes Region General. I have Dr. Gens too!! It is wonderful to hear you had a good experiance. I have only met him twice, seeing him again Monday. Hard to really trust someone you don't know. Are you feeling well? How was your recovery? I have found the group at PRH to be great, so far. Scheduled for surgery 12/6. Any suggestions you have for making the hospital adventure better will be appreciated. Did you stay overnight? Wow, can you tell I am excited to make contact with someone from the same program. Hope you don't mind all the questions. Thank you, Sunshine

Hi sunshine( i like it), no I don't mind all the questions, in fact I encourage them I enjoy answering them and am eager to talk about the whole experience. I'm so glad to hear that your surgery is coming up and good for you for making that step. It was one of the hardest ones I've ever had to make and also one of the best, if I had to do it all again I wouldn't change a thing. I started program at 305 pounds, I had to loose 16lbs prior to my surgery which was on Sept 19th, I ended up loosing 23 lbs, and since surgery I've lost a total of 50 pounds. As for my hospital stay it was wonderful, my only suggestion to you would be get up and walk as soon as you can, one because the beds aren't all that comfortable and you will have less of a chance of getting that pain associated with the gas they fill you with. As for the way I feel, I can't tell you the last time I felt this good, I can actually move like a normal person it feels great to be able to walk without pain in my hips, back or knees, and to be able to climb stairs without loosing my breath. I just went back to work I'm an LNA and to be able to do my job at a normal pace without pain is the greatest feeling. I must agree with you, the team at PRH is wonderful and very helpful I couldn't have asked for a better group. There was only one problem I had with the whole thing and that was the 3 weeks of that lovely tasting CIB, I think that was the worst part, I think I tried talking the nutriontist into letting me back on soilds after one week, which of course wouldn't fly. Please if you have any more questions feel free to contact me and I hope to meet you at a support group meeting. Again best of luck to you and keep up the good work. It only gets better from here. :banana

Hi again,

I am so glad to hear you are having a good band experiance. Few more questions, if you don't mind. How much pain did you have your first week post-op? You work as an LNA, I also work with patients - How long did it take you to get back at work? I am living on CIB now (my insurance has some very strict weight criteria, my BMI has to be under 50 for them to pay - or it is by-pass only. I am currently at 48/49 - too close for comfort, so I have to lose more to get the surgery). I will take your advice and walk asap. Have you had an adjustment (fill) yet? What is that like? I'm telling you - really hope you don't mind, I have so many questions... Take care, Sunshine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
