Ellie_Grace 271 Posted May 11, 2012 I just got my surgery date. It was set for may 31 but then they pushed it back to June 7- I was so bummed. Now the countdown has begun and every day I seem to get more nervous and it's only been a few day - lol. I can't imagine what kind of basket case I will be by the surgery date. My Dr is not requiring any special pre- op diet other then one day of liquids only the day before surgery, this seems odd compared to do many others. Any suggestions on things I should or should not do in this next month? Thanks!
KevinsBabyGirl85 364 Posted May 11, 2012 Even though your dr doesn't require you to do the pre op diet I would definitely stop caffeine and soda if you drink it and I would start eating high Protein low carb and fresh fruit and veggies it will get your body used to a new kind of life!!! Neen 3 Posted May 12, 2012 Don't do the last suppers!!! My friend did and put on 18 pounds in two weeks. Her op was a few years before mine. And now if there is a weight gain between the first consult and surgery, they stop the surgery. This is the surgeries rules, as the want everyone to get on board mentally before the op. I agree best option is eat health and similar to want is expected afterwards, although your portion pre-op are going to be alot larger. I'm 5days post op my meals are 4teaspoons of soft mushy food. 1 eglean2 reacted to this
Barbiedoll77 24 Posted May 13, 2012 I stopped caffeine beverages too. Started to eat clean 2 weeks prior to gastric bypass surgery. No fried foods. No red meat. No high fat. Your bowels will thank you!! Believe me, it was easier for me to start weaning myself like that. Sent from Barbiedoll77 using RNYTalk

Ellie_Grace 271 Posted May 14, 2012 Yes being careful about what I eat already, even though gave no requirements. I might do a liquid diet myself for two days preop to ensure everything works out. I'm so confused about the wide variety of rules each dr seems to use. I would think there would be a common course of treatment and expectations across the board. It's the same for post op diet and expectations- its kinda of frustrating and worrisome. How Fo you know what to follow to really ensure success?

Had my BMI been higher then I would've had to do the two week liguid diet Sent from my Nexus S 4G using RNYTalk
