I am four days post op and having been walking in the driveway or hallway at least once an hour everytime I start for a min my back hurts. Why? I have never had back problems.

Could be gas from the surgery. They put a lot in when they do these laproscopic, or perhaps from laying on the OR table.

Keep walking it will get better. Don't over do it. If you feel tired sit down. Remember you just had major surgery. My surgery was April 23rd. I didn't realize how out of shape i was. The more I walk the better I feel. Every couple of days I try to walk a little further. I'm actually down 30 pounds. I am so happy. Good luck on your recovery.

I second berniec! Exercise is so very important. I think you'll be surprised how quickly you can increase your walking. I started with about 20 minutes on my treadmill. I'm almost 29 weeks post-op now and have been walking about 3 miles and 45 to 55 minutes, at least four times a week, for months now. No question in my mind that it has increased my weight loss and reduced the time it took. The back pain is probably from the surgery itself. I think it's pretty common when you have any kind of surgery. I don't think comfort is a major consideration for operating tables!

Just a question all that may seem odd, but it does affect my walking. Both of my heels are so dry and cracked they sometimes crack open and bleed, making it very uncomfortable to walk. Do any of you have this, and if so, what do you do to make it manageable?

I noticed when I was heavier, my feet were worse. I do a foot treatment about once a week by globbing on Vaseline, eucerine (?sp), or anti fungle cream before bed. Wear sock! The anti fungle was suggested by a podiatrist. I have also heard pedicures but I'm funny about that! Don't like my feet messed with!

I have pedicures regularly as I have the same problem. Also my pedicurist recommended bag balm....put on your feet then put on socks and wear overnight. Do you wear heels without socks? This is a major no no I have found ..even wearing those little hide away socks helps reduce the cracking.

Oil up at night with Vaseline and place plastic bags over your feet with white stocks. After doing this for a while you will notice they get softer and the pain goes away.

You all might think I'm nuts but I use vicks vapor rub in my feet & hands when my exema flares up/ or my hands & feet are dry. It's an remedy for a lot if things. I swear by it. I just rub it on at night before bed no socks usually but I'm sure you could. & the next day everything feels better.....you just gotta like the smell. LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
