shangefan 193 Posted October 11, 2008 SRT8, I just want to make sure I understand. You lost 78 pounds in 2 1/2 months?
SRT8 0 Posted October 11, 2008 Yes, but I may have finally hit a plateau. I am also hitting weights a bit harder.
SRT8 0 Posted October 11, 2008 One more thing, I was really concerned about losing the weight so fast. I'd rather lose it a bit more slowly, however, I am grateful that is did come off. I have to say the funniest thing is when I put on smaller the pants/shorts/jeansI notice that the waist is so much smaller than before and they are still loose! Or that I have lost so much of my fat behind that the cuffs drag on the floor; my inseam has changed. Also, I don't need to wear extra wide shoes. My total weight loss is 82 pounds to date. I stopped using the ticker b/c I kept screwing it up. One more thing, I didn't switch to solid food until recently. I mostly ate Soups and Protein Meal Replacements. This probably explains the initial weight loss as well as the slowing of my weight loss.
shangefan 193 Posted October 11, 2008 Yes, it does sound as though things are slowing, but 82 pounds in 4 1/2 months still sounds really good. I'll bet the added muscle plus the re-introduction of solid food account for that. How did you manage Soups and Meal Replacements for so long? That just seems extra tough. Did you have energy still? I never saw myself as fat until recently, even though I've been essentially the same size for years. I can't really imagine what I will look like thinner. But I'm curious to try it on. Congrats on your accomplishments!
SRT8 0 Posted October 11, 2008 shangefan, The Soups weren't too bad. I kept getting a variety of Campbell's Soup. I really didn't get too tired, but I kept everything spread out. For example, around 7 am or 8 am I would have the MetRx MRP; around 10 am I would have a Protein Bar that has 20g of Protein (Clif Builder's Bar); at noon I would have the soup; around 3 pm I would have another protein bar; between 5 pm and 6 pm I would have soup again. Before bed, if I felt hungry, or didn't get enough protein, I would make a shake with MetRx Ultramyosen Protein. (One other thing about protein, sometimes I'd mix it with non-fat milk or just water.) I supplemented the soup (depending upon the number of calories in the soup) with a serving of apple sauce and/or no-carb Jello; Water, spiked with Crystal Light Hydration or Green Tea On-The-Go packets. There were times I ate a lot less than this b/c I wasn't hungry, but I thought I should try to get to 1,000 calories per day. Like most anything else, once you get used to the band, eating is not too hard. Every now and then I do miss chips and other type Snacks, but when I put my smaller clothes on, I overcome that urge. Good luck to you!
downsdc 0 Posted October 12, 2008 Hey guys, I have my consult on 10/14 so hopefully I'll be banded in the next month or so. Glad to see the mens forum - I appears that most of the people on lapbandtalk are women. I'm from Ooltewah, TN (just outside of Chattanooga) and Dr. Ponce from the Gastric Band Institute is going to do my surgery in Dalton, GA (30 miles below Chattanooga). When they did my upper gi, they found I have a hiatal hernia but I've been told that it would probably fixed while the band was being put it (I'll find out at my consult). Any else had this issue? Chris61 0 Posted October 16, 2008 It is hard to beleive that it has been 13 months since I have been banded. A lot of things have happen since being banded and I will do that in another post.In June of 2007 I went in for a sleep study and found out that I did indeed have sleep apena. I was put on a CPAP machine in August 07 and did ok with it. I was banded in September of 2007. After being banded I was having some issues with the CPAP machine, in regards to being bloated all the time and taking the mask off at night. I talked with my doctor about this and he had the machine set to the lowest settings. He also suggested that I look into getting a dental applaince. I went and meet with the dentist who deals in sleep apnea and she said it would not be a problem and so it took about 4 months to get it approved by insurance. I was fitted with the herbest retainer in February, 2008. I went back to my doctor who handles the sleep apnea in August and he was real pleased with the way I looked and the amount of weight lost. So the doctor order a new sleep study. I had the sleep study on year to the date of being banded. I will say that the band can help people get away from using the CPAP. Keep in mind that everyone is differant and what works for one might not work for the other person. Here is the results of the study:Per BandOriginal study (pre weight loss) Weight 250 BMI 40Breathing event per hour: 68Total breathing cessation per hour: 49Lowest recorded oxygen level: 70%BandedNew Study: post weight lossWeight 186 BMI 29.1 Breathing events per hour: 19.4Total breathing cessation per hour: 19.4Lowest recorded oxygen level: 91%With the Herbst Retainer Dental Device:Breathing events per hour: 4.6 (counting little bitty ones 6.2)Total breathing cessation per hour: 4Lowest oxygen level: 92%It turns out that with the Herbst, you are worst when you lie on your left side. Then you have 8.3 events per hour. In dream sleep, you have 10.2 events per hour.I went to the sleep doctor this week to review this study and he said that I could stop using the CPAP Machine and continue with the Herbst Retainer. He also said that my numbers were low enough that even if I did not use the retainer that I could do away with the CPAP. He also felt the numbers would go down lower with more weight loss. My goal range is between 165-175. He also said that I did not need to come back and see him unless I feel that Iam having problems. He said that I can just go back to the dentist and get a new herbest retainer when this one wears out in a few years. Also I no longer have any snoring issues either. So as you can see here proof is in the pudding about the band and how it can help everyone out. It just takes a lot of time and effort to make it all happen. It does not happen overnight.Chris
