Special_K_77 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Well after thinking about this for some time I have taken the plunge and am being banded on May 14th by Dr. Spivek in Houston. I am self-paying so it is a huge expense but I know I am worth it.
Brewa2000 1 Posted April 23, 2007 Hello All, I was banded on April 17th in NY and it has all been really good so far. Lost 30 pounds since the pre-op diet and after 4 days the hearburn has stopped (almost). My question is I am hungry as a bear and really want to get to the mushy stage of diet but my wife and the papers all say wait for 4 weeks. If I feel I can chew and eat now then what is the hold up and yes, I know about slippage, vomiting, etc.. But that does not seem to be happening to me. Help... :hungry: Also how to you add the bar to show lose? There is still a lot of healing going on. I'd do what your doc says. I drank a ton of Protein Shakes (3/day), Soups, broths, etc. Believe it or not, it will pass quickly. For the bar, click on some one's www.TickerFactory.com logos and follow instructions. Good luck! Brewa2000 1 Posted April 23, 2007 Welcome Kevin! Congrats on getting your date! My wife and I self paid too and don't regret it. It's a great investment on your health. I was banded on 1/31/07. I feel great and can move around much better. We save a bunch on our food bill. Good luck! Bruce
396power 2 Posted April 23, 2007 How much have you lost total Brew?
Brewa2000 1 Posted April 23, 2007 55 lbs. since pre op, 36 since surgery. I seem to lose in bunches, I've been at a plateau for a little over a week, but feel a good loss coming on. Would like to be at my mid point (59 lbs) at week's end. I might go in for a slight fill next week. Glad your feeling good. I was more tired than anything. Except the gas, I felt bloated for a couple days. My wife had some pain for a few days. Does your wife have a date? It's good to go through it together. 396power 2 Posted April 23, 2007 Yes her date is May 18 She is excited. you have lost alot. so will that be you first fill?
jbtullis 0 Posted April 23, 2007 I had my second fill today. It's been two weeks since the first one. I couldn't tell much difference after the first one. I made the mistake of telling my Dr. that I couldn't tell much difference and he had the needle in there a lot longer this time. At lunch I could tell a bit of difference this time. Total lost is up to 43 pounds now. 2 months post op. :clap2:
Brewa2000 1 Posted April 23, 2007 Yes her date is May 18 She is excited.you have lost alot. so will that be you first fill? Good for your wife! If statistics prove correct, she will probably lose at a slower rate than you. I say this because my wife is somewhat dissappointed at her rate of loss. I tell her we are all different and that it's not a race. I have had 2 fills so far. I'm thinking about having a third. Today, so far, I feel like it's working just fine. I had about a cup of some pork that I BBQed yesterday. A few months ago, I'd have eaten a lot more. Bruce

redstrat 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Hello Everyone. Tomorrow is my 90 day mark. I have lost 85lbs as of last Saturday. I have went from a 58-60 pant to a 46-48. I cant believe how easy this has been so far. I have not yet had a fill. I can eat more than when I first had the surgery but I just dont. I make sure I eat normal portions and eat healthy foods. Im not saying that I dont have that occasional slice of pizza, hamburger, or pasta.(with the band I can only do 1 slice of pizza or half a burger anyway) I just don't do it everyday. I do believe that the decision to have the band has been the best I have ever made. I have to tell you that Neal's website has been a great motivational tool. PSWashburn 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Joe, What is "neals websight?" You mentioned it in your note. I was banded April 16. It has not been too bad. I lost 20 lbs in both pre and post diet. I will not have my first fill until May 14. I might start chewing my fingers just to have something to chew. Phil

Chris45 0 Posted April 24, 2007 Hello everyone, I am waiting on my PCP to write a letter. The last item I need to submit to my insurance company for approval. I started jumping thru hoops in Jan with a seminar. I can't wait to get my lap band. This thread has gotten me fired up. My wife had Gastric bypass in 2001. She has no regrets and says she would do it again in a heart beat, however I notice the time she spends in bed due to dumping and/or other stomach problems. I have chosen the lap band to avoid these issues and due to the shorter recovery time. Has anyone used Dr. Olson at Centennial Medical Ctr in Nashville?
