Fellas - I'm scheduled to get my first fill in 4 weeks. Is there a huge difference in what you can eat, how you eat, how much you can eat, etc. after the fill?

I really hasn't change what I eat. Just small pieces, eat slow and chew a lot. If I don't, I get a feeling like I swallowed a baseball. I go in for fill #2 Friday. My portion size has increased.

Cory-I don't know if it's the surgery or it being our busy season (12 hour work days), but I've been a little "testy" lately. But, without losing the 47 lbs. I don't think I could get my work done.

396- I really don't qualify as a long timer, but for what it's worth, I have no regrets at all. Feeling great!

Bruce

another thing. I really can't eat a plain sandwich or lasagna without that "stuck" pain. Anything "gummy" when you chew it up causes me problems. Seems like, to comfortably eat bread, it has to be toasted.

Scheduled surgery for May 1st.

I have two questions for anybody out there.

1) Do I have a specific diet or regiment to follow the weeks preceding the surgery?

2) How long before I can start playing golf again? (Obviously the more importnat question)

Thanks

I had my first fill this morning. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be. I am a HUGE needle phobe. But he just popped it in and it was over. No biggie.

I can tell a huge difference at lunch today. I was planning to eat soft things which was fine but I noticed I was back to eating about the amount I did when it was only 2.5 weeks post op. That was a good thing.

I have the larger band so I go back in a little over 2 weeks for the next one. Fun Fun Fun.

Actually pretty excited b/c I was feeling like there was no restriction. I forgot to ask how much Fluid he added. oh well.

so for long timeers is there any regrets about having the lap band

I am 11 months out now and don't know if that qualifies me as long term. But I am at goal for almost 2 months now. No regrets at all, I lost faster than most RNY patients and have had zero complications. Best thing I have ever done for myself. I have been obese most of my life and am smaller now than I have ever been (probably since like middle school and was much shorter then) I am wearing a 34 waist pants and a medium shirt. I never thought, even best case scenerio, that I would loose that much that fast.

anyone else experience this?

before surgery and weightloss i could pretty much let anything just roll off my back. since then i can't seem to let anything go and will steam about things that upset me untill i'm ready to pull my hair out.

my wife had the same thing... It was cause by the knock out gas they used on her.:notagree It took several weeks for her to finally get back to her own self. If you feel you can't weather the "stewing boil" talk to you Dr. about it, I'm sure he/she can help.

Hey Neal (OUSOONER)

Do you have the post op diet or philosphy out there you followed? I thought I remember you mentioning it once before but didn't see it on your personal web site.

Thanks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
