Hello!

I'm so glad I found this thread. My name is Dave and I am a guy!

I've not had the band fitted yet, but am aiming to have it soon though. I'm just taking some time getting my head around it all. I live in the UK, but am looking at having the procedure in Belgium as it is more cost effective there.

I have loads of things I want to ask, but here is just one question for starters. I do a fairly sedentary job and I was wondering how quickly you think I could get back to work after the procedure?

Thanks,

Dave

I had mine done on monday went into work for a half day thursday.

Hello Everyone,

I'm thinking about having the proceedure and I have a lot of questions...one for staters, other than the financial benefit, what are some other reasons for having it done in TJ or any other place.

Hey Bigtime : I was self pay, but the my Dr. and his staff are the best..The staff at the hospital was great too.The hospital where I went was new, modern, clean and close to some great before surgery food and drink (Mexican food):hungry: . Whether you have your surgery done here or not, just remember that they have been doing Lap-band Surgery longer in other country's than here in the USA.. Dr. Kuri has done thousands of lap-band surgery's over the years, and he is well known for his work in Mexico and his seminars here in the US.

Hey Rowdy,

How was the premiere???

Chris

Premier was awesome man.. Was a really fun event. Kelly Preston is smokin hot. Got to meet them both and got autographs and pics with them. Had a few drinks. Not sure that is on the pre-op diet. whoops.

Hi Guys,

I am booked to have my band installed on April 5th in Toronto at TLBC.

I am glad to see a thread just for guys, I can relate to a lot of what we I have read already.

I am a cancer survivor and have lost some mobility with a hip replacement recently. I am over 300 lbs. and growing. Where does this appetite come from! I would like to get below 200 lbs.

I am hoping that losing weight will help me in many ways;

-help me be more active

-help me reduce my dependancy on medications

-help recover my sex life

Am I dreaming?

Dave

Dave, it's probably not realistic to predict specific results for each person, but I can tell you that most people who get the band and lose significant amounts of weight find that they experience all the positive results you mention. The main point is, there is no better way to get there -- nothing else even comes close. So keep dreaming. We all have the same dreams. And for all of us, the odds are in our favor that the dreams will come true.

Hey Ted ...Thanx for the info. I would like to hear more about your expirence in Mex. and anyone else that had a good expirence in Mex as I try to make a decision on which doc. to consult. Any input would be helpful. I went to a seminar in Chgo, Sat. and there talking 16K. I want to get a quality job done without breaking the bank...after all, it's our health that we are all concerned about.

Hey bigtime, I have nothing at all against the Mexican doctors. Many people have had great experiences with them. But I just want to mention that my doc is in Denver. He charges $9950 for everything, and he is a very expererienced surgeon. You can get mor info about him by running a search for "Kirshenbaum" on this forum. Also, the link to his web site is below with my signature. Just something to think about.

Good luck getting it all sorted out.

Mark: your goals are very reasonable. As Marjon says, no one has the same experience after banding, but I can confirm your goals were my goals and I have seen measurable progress on all three fronts.

Ted: while we all wish for weightloss to be steady, the reality is the body gives up excess weight on its own schedule, not ours. I have experienced several plateaus, of different durations, in which my weight would not drop and at times even increased. Each and every plateau has ended and weight loss has resumed. Fills do help. So, hang in there, examine what you're eating, make sure you're exercising and enjoy the ride. While we yearn for the day we reach a target weight, we can't control how quickly we may get there. Nevertheless, the journey is worthwhile and enjoyable and the results are very satisfying. Good luck, brother.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
