Hang in there and be glad that you did not have to do 3 weeks like myself and alot of people. What pre-op diet are you doing?

If you are on Optifast, dont worry, once your body goes into ketosis you should feel much better.

Andrew

I never thought about Ketosis!! I will have to go and test myself. I have some strps from when I was on one of my 100 Atkins phases!!

I do know my wife yelled at me because thursday and friday I only ate about half of my shakes I was supposed to! Just did not feel like eating.

I am on the Bariatrix plan. 11 scoops of Meal Replacement a day and 2 cups of veggies

Chris

Nah insurance is paying but I don't think they are going to cover the BS classes I have to take first.:)

Hey Chris, I'd do some more checking into this. If they're covering your surgery I have to believe they would cover a medically supervised weight loss program thru a dietician, ect. ( Usually a requirement before they approve a surgery. ) You may have to get a referral for this type of program. Good luck.

:) WOW, Well this was no fun at all, It was dinner time and I was going to fix my shake for my dinner ,and thought I would have a little chicken ( just a bite or two) before the shake,:hungry: and before I know it, I put that dang big old pice of chicken my mouth and did not chew it well at all. Holey crap it seemed to get stuck and it did not feel good at all.:omg: I tried to drink a little Water, thinking it would push it down ,wrong it made it worse. With out telling my wife what I did I went to the bath room and tried to PB. which I did, thank the stars 3 times .:faint: I'll never do that again, I hope.:nervous

Similar story, today at lunch I was eating some quesadillas, I had finish and took one large sip of water, well I felt like I had to puke really bad, it took all I have in me to get the feeling out of me, I took my kid to walk outside to think of something else, thank God I was able to make it pass as I read that trowing up is not good at all.

Sorry to hear about your episodes Daniel and Ted. I've been trying to be very careful myself. So far, so good. I have heard of others having problems with chicken and tortillas. I know I have to be very careful as I have always been one to eat fast and not chew my food enough. I'm sure at some time I'll go through it too.

Ok so rsbg1 how did it go? I got banded Dec. 26, 2006. I have absolutely NO regrets. I feel the best I've ever felt. When I look in the mirror I still see a fat guy but hey thats my baggage. A Tummy Tuck, I'm sure I will need one and will probably get one. And yes I am gay. HAHAHA

good luck

I'm back.

Surgery was yesterday (02/19). I had a small undetected hiatal hernia behind my esophagus that revealed itself as they were manipulating the band around my esophagus. That opened a path to my chest cavity and collapsed my left lung. I woke up in recovery to discover that chest tubes hurt like Hell! It was near instant relief when they pulled that puppy out.

Anyway, all is well now, The lung is fully inflated and the band is in place. Just experiencing the expected soreness.

Oh, and no hunger yet!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
