Four Days Til Liquid Diet

Recommended Posts

First, I'd liked to say I really have enjoyed this app and have found it extremely helpful. I'm 37, 315lbs. Four days out from start of liqud diet. Right now I'm having pain in my fatty inlarged liver. Doc says the diet will shrink it so hopefully it will stop hurting. I'm very excited about having this surgery done.

Welcome to the board! This really is a great bunch of people; I wish you the best of luck with your surgery! I am 17 days post op from my revision to RNY surgery and am glad I found this board shortly before my surgery.

Kelly- as far as pre-op liquid diet; the first few days are rough. I found mixing up the shake flavors kept it interesting. Drink lots of fluids in between shakes as well. For my pre op diet I was allowed to have 2 cups of veggies a day (which helped me a lot) but it all depends on your surgeons pre-op plan. Just try to take it day by day! You can do it! Best of luck.

Aww yeah it's a long 2 weeks; but try to keep focus on each day (and it is pretty sweet when you get on the scale before surgery and see the lbs have already started to melt away) this too shall pass :)

Good luck. Just had my surgery done. I stuck with the 2 week Protein Shakes and Water. My dr fixed a hernia that I had if he wouldn't have done that I wouldn't be hurting at all. I feel kinda week at times but that is normal. Just try to walk alot too and you will do great. Good luck.

I don't know what to say but I failed, after five days I gave in and ate some meet. Although I feel a lot better I didn't enjoy it. I feel more determined to do this. Do I tell my doc? Will I have to resceduale? Funny thing is my live pain went down significantly the last few days. Now its starting to come back.

Definitely don't tell your doc I was told that if your liver is too large on surgery day they just switch your surgery from lap to open so keep that in mind for the rest of your diet they had me so scared that I only cheated 1 time on the liquid diet and alls I ate was a little bit of popcorn and some twizzlers at the movies 2 days before surgery!! Sending you hugs and just know you can do anything you set your mind to!!

It's interesting because my dr is not requiring me to do a liquid diet except for the day before and he rarely does open bypass surgery... Makes me wonder how the drs decide what we are supposed to be doing pre- op if the requirements are so different. My friend who just had surgery a week ago with a different dr only had to do liquid diet for two days and had no issues with having it done as a lap. It's just confusing

The doctor I'm going to told me to do a liquid diet a week before. I'm currently in it and it SUCKS! I want to cry! I haven't cheated and the closer I get the less I want to cheat but the harder it is! I have my surgery on Tuesday the 24th! But I want popcorn so bad! I want a hotdog so bad! I want chicken strips with rice so bad! I want a gigantic triple bacon cheese burger!

If your hungry and your going to cheat put something in your Protein Shake to make it taste better. chocolate Protein with Peanut Butter and a tsp of instant coffee make it taste good. Get creative! Make a vegatbla Soup and puree it. I put garlic, onions, squash, and it was the best! Stay strong. I am on day 6. One more day left!!!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
