So today I had my first meeting with the surgeons office, other than the initial class everyone took together. I really thought I would go in, get dates for the other appointments and get the show on the road! But no... Apparently I'm too fat. They are making me lose 44lbs before I even get to start doing pre op stuff. So, it's going to waste another 3 or so months! Lose weight... Fine, but let me do it all together so I feel like I'm getting somewhere! So frustrating. And I'm scared, this is my last resort, what If I can't lose it?! Ugh. My meal plan is basically, 1 egg Breakfast, 4 oz protien for dinner and lunch with 1/2 cup veg each meal. 64 oz Water and 3 protien supplements a day, that I have to buy there. Anyway- gripe session over! Gotta go get more water!

I never heard of such a thing being too fat. Well try doing the diet I'm doing but it's not easy trust me. It's strick. This is before surgery but I'm being strong.

Breakfast-slim fast shake

Snack- fruits

Lunch- slim fast

Snack- pudding/jello ect.

dinner must be at Dix- tiny piece of meat or fish with veggies.

Must be 1000calories intake or less per day

Yeah, that is strict! I am 444 lbs, so they want my bmi below 65 they said. I have no problem with that... Just wish I could do the other things in conjunction with losing weight! Cause I am going to do it!

Don't be discouraged just do a documented weight loss with your doctor month to month exercise walk as much as possible drink plenty of Water make sure your eating 3 meals that are Protein enriched and get a second opinion from another bariatric surgeon to see if you absolutely have to lose the weight before you start your pre op stuff what does your insurance require that's normally what the surgeon goes by

I think that's why I'm frustrated, my insurance doesn't require me to do a documented diet. It's just the dr wanting me to be below a certain bmi before they will do the surgery. Oh well...

There may be a reason their asking you to do that it may lower risks so you won't have complications... so don't feel defeated just do what you need to do so you can be post op soon and your lucky my insurance required me to do six month pre op diet and they denied me and I had to write an appeal and they just approved it it's been an 8 month process and this just the beginning so I say all this to say your not alone every1 has a journey it's not easy and don't give up just do what you need to do

Dont feel defeated!! I never heard of such a thing, but you can loose it! I started off at 429 pounds. During my 6 month insurance requirement, I lost 80 pounds :) feel amazing already, and can't wait for the surgery. During those 6 months I was put on a 1200 calorie diet walk a mile every other day and then low impact aerobics on the opposite days. Of course I did not keep up with the exercise 100 percent, but it showed that I did it :) I know you can do this, everyone's journey has bumps in the road :)

I believe that one of the reasons MDs want to see some weight loss (even if insurance doesn't require) is that any weight loss will decrease tghe size of your liver. We all have "fatty livers" at this point, and the surgery requires going in and around your liver. The maller it is, the better. Makes surgery safer. I know, it's a pain--we just want to get the surgery done!

It's a long road ahead of all of us. We can do it. It's true if we dont do the diet then what good would surgery be? We have to get our body used to eating small amounts so it gets easier after surgery. Sorry this is only my opinion. I'm also not having the greatest time with this diet but a have a photo of a really huge woman that I don't want to look like her so it helps me out.

Its to help with fatty liver and risk. Every bmi point over 50 someone is means more risk. My bmi is 53 so my doc said its best to get it to 50 if I can but its not required. But yes, its to give you less chance of risk for all/any complications after surgery. Bypass surgery used to not be done on anyone with a bmi over 50 because of increases risk, so be thankful docs will do over 50 bmi and be thankful he just wants surgery to be safer for you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
