Had my first appointment today and it looks like I'm aiming for mid-July. I've been given the choice between RNY or a vertical sleeve ( I think that's what it's called). Anyone know anything about what the differences are? Advantages or disadvantages? Thx!

Gastric bypass works two ways...restriction by reducing your stomach to a small pouch as well as malabsorbtion through rerouting your small intestines. The sleeve removes seventy five percent of ur stomach. The sleeve is a relatively new procedure so there are no long term studies. You will lose more weight with gastric bypass. You do have to commit to more Vitamin supplements throughout the day with gastric bypass due to the malabsorption. My surgery date is 5/21. It was almost a six month process to get to this point. I have done a lot of research. Hope this helps!

Atcgoddess explained it well. I was also told that insurance will sometimes deny the sleeve as it's what they consider a more "experimental" surgery. Additionally, if you have Gerd, they (surgeons) do not recommend the sleeve. In fact, most information notes that the RNY will stop it entirely.

I'm inclined to go with the bypass at this point. The more established the procedure, the more I feel okay about it. My insurance gives me the choice, but I'm going bypass.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
