Hello Everyone,

This is my first posting. I had my surgery on Jan. 15, 9 days ago. I am doing really well so far. It's such a strange feeling NOT to be hungry. How long did this last for you. Will I suddenly be really hungry one day? I am really a little worried about eatting out, which I will have to do soon. Please give me some advise on this. Any helpful hints about how to handle other people who don't know you have the lap-band and keep asking you to eat with them. I really don't want to tell everyone. How do any of you handle this? Thanks for your help and advise.

you don't have to tell anyone anything--just eat what you're supposed to eat and say you had some "stomach flu" and you're eating lightly. no one really cares--they're not going to notice. i went to a business party 10 days after surgery--had 1 little diet coke (just to hold) and no one noticed that i didn't eat any food.

when i first went out to a restaurant--i looked through the menu to see what i could have--there's always soup--and iced tea--that'll fill you right up!

good luck!

Welcome to lapband forum. I eat out all the time. I don't have to tell anyone that I am banded. I like to eat salads the most or a filet mignon. You can also order an appetizer if that is easier for you. I take home what is left or just discard. About the hunger. I am 8 months post op and I am never hungry. On occasion I'll get a growl in my lower stomach but it isn't frequent. Good luck.

French Onion Soup (bread tossed and cheese on the side), make your own mashed (baked potato with Condiments on the side), spinach artichoke dip with a spoon, broccoli cheese soup, refried Beans with a few threads of cheese on the top (for the Mex restaurant trip), enchilada soup at Chili's have been my gourmet fare when eating out at the once-a-week-teacher meetings. No one has commented except something about how I sure do take a lot of leftovers home.

Never tried baby foods...are they nasty tasting? I was considering getting a few for post op.

I like the baby food (Gerber) fruits and vegetables, but the meat leaves me gagging. I have a magic bullet that I plan to mix stock and meat bits in to boost the Protein. It just looks like brown grunge, but the taste is great - like thick gravy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
