Just Wanted To Share Some Grocery Tips!

Recommended Posts

I am on the puree stage 3 weeks post-op and just wanted to share some little things that have makes this stage a little easier so far. Of course I've been eating pureed tuna for the Protein Benifits lately ......but found the best low fat mayo to spice it up called Kraft cracked pepper mayo with olive oil! It amazing with tuna and some minced onion and sugar free sweet relish and I found in the baby food section the Gerber graduates "lil crunchies " in garden flavor.....they are for babies who can't chew and the little puffs just melt in your mouth. There is nothing to swallow just a great little dipper chip that instantly disintegrates on your tongue after you crunch it and they are great to dip in the tuna or spread a little cheese on. Also of course the mini barbell cheese as great too! Love those. Also found an almond milk that is sugar free, lactose free, and only 40 calories a cup! Great for making the sugar free pudding. I'm still too scared to try milk products so I'm playing it safe.....lol. oh- and got the greatest tip ever from my pharmacist! My insurance only covered these huge horse pill capsules to prevent acid reflux that I had to take. But I was so scared because they were so huge! He said just brush on little olive oil then take the capsule with a sip of drink. I would have never thought of that! Anyways.....it worked! And these pills are like a half inch in size! Really scary. Lol . Just thought I would pass it along. ......

This is just a thought. I got released from the hospital yesterday and I was asking my surgeon about the medications I was taking. I asked him about the one for acid reflux and he said I probably wouldn't need it. He said in most cases after the survey the acid reflux goes away. So I decided I'm not going to take mine and see what happens. So far so good.

I had acid reflux and was on nexium prior to surgery, my surgeon said I probably won't have acid reflux anymore either. But he put me on Nexium powder for 1 month after surgery to protect my pouch. Good luck without the meds! Hopefully I can stop taking those meds too!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
