With all due respect they expect everyone that's going to have WLS to be 500+ pounds.

I can totally understand, I started at 215, now 3 weeks post op I am 187. Everyone has their own reasons for the surgery. None of my in-laws understood why I had surgery, they all said that I wasn't That big.

I got ppl telling me the same thing, my start wt 265lbs now 24 days post-op and wt 228lbs last time I weight my self. Tomorrow I'll wt myself again cuz I want to participate on the TGIF WT Group ;)

Anyways back to the topic I was told the same thing that I wasn't that big and that I could had done it myself but inside myself I knew that I could never have the will power to do so that i need it this great wl tool cuz I tried so many times and never made it! And I really want it to avoid comorbidities and also get my self-steem high as I used to have it before so I won't care what ppl tells me. I just know that this was the best for me!!! My view towards Obesity is that is a Pandemic Addiction and at least we WLS pals have the guts to deal w/it and try to resolve our problems...so let them talk as we get skinny minies lol ;)

I had mixed feedback from people. For the mist part people were really excited for me & glad I was doing it. There were a few people that were shocked. My highest weight was 273 & now I am at 242. I lost most of it before surgery- some I was required to & then I wanted to go into surgery as healthy as I could.

Bottom line is that everyone has their own personal reasons for deciding on surgery. Mine was that I have a family history of diabetes & heart disease, I was pre-diabetic, I had high blood pressure, I had border line sleep apnea, chronic foot & back problems. I have had a lifetime of being overweight and have tried every diet on earth. I lose some & then gain back more...such a vicious circle! Finally, my husband is morbidly obese & I really hope that by seeing how good I do, he will consider doing it himself!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
