geisha714 8 Posted April 25, 2012 I am curious... Did most of you get approved for surgery easily or did you have a lot of hoops to jump through? I meet the criteria and have tried many weight loss programs. I also have a letter of referral from my primary doctor. I know all insurance is different but I'm curious on what most people experience. I have Aetna for medical.
Jen in SoCal 189 Posted April 25, 2012 I was told it would take two weeks to up to two months for final approval but it took 6 days. Honestly I think it was too fast! I found out I wasn't really prepared financially and I had to cram a lot if dr appointments into three weeks time. I have BlueCross BlueShield PPO
Lisa 0 Posted April 25, 2012 I have aetna also and they are making me wait at least 3 months before I can be approved for the surgery. I heard it doesn't take very long to be approved like In a week or

geisha714 8 Posted April 26, 2012 Well i got bad news today.... Aetna will not cover any bariatric surgery for me. Apparently it's an exemption from my insurance plan. When I logged into their website online it said they covered gastric bypass. I am so disappointed!! I went through all of these steps just for them to say no! Lisa 0 Posted April 26, 2012 when you got started did you call the insurance company to see if they will pay for anything. that's what I did if I started any testing processes

I called around and found out that I can get it done for less than third if price going through the surgeons themselves. Might want To at least ask, It's worth it if you can afford it that way, I had to refinance. My date is June 5!

Any possible way the doctor can have them make an exception?
