Waiting On Insurance Approval..

Recommended Posts

I am curious... Did most of you get approved for surgery easily or did you have a lot of hoops to jump through? I meet the criteria and have tried many weight loss programs. I also have a letter of referral from my primary doctor. I know all insurance is different but I'm curious on what most people experience. I have Aetna for medical.

I was told it would take two weeks to up to two months for final approval but it took 6 days. Honestly I think it was too fast! I found out I wasn't really prepared financially and I had to cram a lot if dr appointments into three weeks time. I have BlueCross BlueShield PPO

I have aetna also and they are making me wait at least 3 months before I can be approved for the surgery. I heard it doesn't take very long to be approved like In a week or 2

Well i got bad news today.... Aetna will not cover any bariatric surgery for me. Apparently it's an exemption from my insurance plan. When I logged into their website online it said they covered gastric bypass. I am so disappointed!! I went through all of these steps just for them to say no!

Don't give up!! Unless u absolutly love your job, I'd look for something else where it's not exempted!!

My insurance does not cover it either! I called around and found out that I can get it done for less than third if price going through the surgeons themselves. Might want To at least ask, It's worth it if you can afford it that way, I had to refinance. My date is June 5!

I'm sorry they will not pay for it. Any possible way the doctor can have them make an exception?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
