Protein Drink Ideas?

Recommended Posts

I like my Protein Drink but its starting to get old and I'm starting to opt for something like sugar free pudding instead of the drink. And I know that the pudding is empty nutrition. I am so not creative in the kitchen.......does anyone have any suggestions on kicking up an orange cream (from Bariatric Advantage) Protein drink or can recommend a new mix? I am only 3 weeks post-op and my drink is good just getting boring. Thanx

I get bored easily too! Have you looked into the sugar free syrups? There is a huge selection online and a decent supply at Walmart down the coffee isle. I just bought cocconut, peanut. Butter and peach online of course. There are flavors I didn't know existed.

Try the Syntrax Nectars they are tasty!!! Also you could blend some fruit, ice, milk, and Protein powder.....makes the best smoothie!! Also try unflavored Protein Powder in pudding or yogurt!!!

I'm still on the pre-op diet which is just Protein Shakes, 64 oz Water and sugar free popsicles, Jello and that's about it. I read on the Unjury web site that someone had written to them and said they didn't lose as much weight on their shakes and they thought it was due to where the Protein was being made. I tried the unjury shakes and didn't like them. To sweet and too gritty. Can anybody tell me if they use the ready to drink shakes and which ones, and also how much is everyone walking? Thanks all..

I bought the Premier Nutrition Protein Shakes from costco. My surgeon recommended them AFTER I had already spent 70 bucks on a bag of Bariatric Advantage orange cream (a weeks supply)

The premier nutrition chocolate is delicious, super convenient ready to drink. They have 30 grams of Protein and 5 grams of carbs! I'm so glad I found them. And to top it off they are only 27 dollars for a case of 18.

They come in vanilla too but I haven't tried it yet.

I had my surgery in 2004 (with a whole host of complications, including not being able to hold food down for 9-months). Back in the day, Unjury powder was only available in vanilla and chocolate. Now they have a tropical fruit (or mixed berry) flavor. I have never liked any other protein substitutes and with the Unjury, I can take the fruity flavored powder, use a cup of yogurt, some Splenda (I like it sweet), a few ices cubs and just a touch of no-cal juice - toss is all in my juice blender and have a yummy smoothly.

Even this many years out I still use Unjury. I order it directly from their site (cheaper, no mark up from the Doctor) and if I want to try a new flavor, they offer single serving packages so you are not committed to a whole jar. One thing I've found, if you don't use a blender or juice blender, the protein can clump and taste gritty.

I am a vegetarian and eat no flesh, so I rely on Unjury to help with my nutritional needs. I still have issued with holding food in and toss my Cookies at least a few times a month. But what're trying all the Protein Bars, different powders, drinks, and pre made items, I still swear by Unjury. Anyway, just some thoughts for people new to protein powders.

Blessings to all,

Thanks Ragdolls! Useful info. After surgery, it may be better, but right now, I'm having to mix powders in Water, and it's not too good!

Kim,

Are you allowed to use "zero calorie Sobee water"? I drink this when I need a change from bottled Water. No calories, no carbs, no sugar. And it comes in yummy flavors. Perhaps you can mix you Protein powder with this in lieu of plain water. Just a thought.

Erin,

See my post to Kim Miller in regard to making yummy smoothies with fresh fruit, yogurt and your protein mix. You can get 20 grams of protein and sweet fruits at the same time. If you like coffee, you can get the chocolate protein mix and a teaspoon of instant coffee, or use brewed coffee (I think it has to be Decaf, if I remember). Toss into the blender and add some ice and you have a chocolate mocha smoothie.

Good luck,

Ragdolls2

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
