Optifasters

Thanks for the butterfly info Yoda. I am really trying to turn this into busines trip so I can write off the flights. Crappy thing is that we getthere at 1:00 on Monday, 12:00 appointment with Dr. C Tuesday, and Surgery Wednesday. I dont think I will feel like going on Thursday, and then home Friday.

Drat.

Hi, I haven't had the banding yet, just lurking and reading all that I can. Do you all have to go on a liquid diet before the surgery? I go to a seminar on 3-8-07, I don't know a whole lot about it yet. Just wondering. Sounds like everyone is doing good. I can't believe the before/after pictures. Everyone looks great.

It really depends on the surgeon who is doing your band.

Many of us here have Dr. Coburn as our surgeon. He prescribes at least a 2 week Optifast diet, 3 week in my case due to high BMI.

Welcome Aborad.

Anyone on the Pre-Op diet super cranky? Man oh man. I think it's because I am hungry but honestly I snap at everyone (even my Boss :omg: ) and the funny thing is that in my head I know I am acting like a B%tch but I just can't seem to stop myself. :speechles

My energy is also waning a bit. Although I still have been able to walk 30 min a day I just find I am sort of sluggish. Just wondering if it's just me or if others are feeling that as well or have at least felt that way.

LMAO

Oh....I"m sorry...I don't mean to laff AT you.....it is just you reminded me of what I was like on my pre-op diet. Ask Mr Yoda....HE'LL tell ya!!! LOL....poor guy.....lets just say the fact that he still loves me so much even after I was the evil bitch from hell during those 2 weeks speaks in very large volumes about the strength of our love!!!

Hang in there Dame.....tis all normal and this, too shall pass. If you have a significant other just be sure to explain to him that it isn't "him" and to just bear with you!! Mr Yoda got the brunt of it because folks at work didn't know and so I was very careful not to snap at work....so Mr Yoda got the double whammy when I got home after having kept it inside for so long!!!!

HANG IN THERE!

Hey Yoda do the folks at work know now? And to answer the cranky question..not so much just kinda sad and anxious and I don't know why...but a good nights sleep would help my mood...when I'm stressed sleep is always hard to get.:notagree

Thanks Yoda no worries about the laughing. I am waiting for the day when I can turn around at laugh at this situation myself. I am such an evil girl lately. :bandit

Tonight I am having friends over and I have to serve food. I am making sure that there is a big veggie plate so I can just munch on that without people noticing I am not eating the rest.

give me strength I think I might need it tonight. I keep telling myself a handfull of popcorn wont hurt any. And although I am sure it probably wont I don't like the idea that I can't even stick to the rules for these couple weeks. Being hard on myself. but I think that is good cause I don't think I ever really have before.

Astrotoes....nope...the people at work don't know....if they do, they found out by some other means and aren't letting on to me.

Dame: good luck this evening! I'm sure things will go okay. Generally unless you are super obvious about it people are too wrapped up in themselves to notice you aren't eating much.

Hey, am I allowed to drink coffee or tea?? (with just a splash of milk?). This really sucks, its only day 3 for me, thank God I am busy unpacking so I am mostly pre-occupied.

Accoding to the paperwork they sent no. What if you mixed a spoonful of vanilla Optifast in your coffee?

Sorry Becca no milk or sugar in your coffee. totally bummed me out too. Had black coffee today at the hairdressers. Not too great.

Anyway last night was great I did not cheat, was very tempted, but I resisted. Believe it or not one of my guests did notice but only cause she was trying to get me to eat something. Anyway I made a lame excuse and that was the end of it. I am glad I did that last night. That only means I have passed the worst in the pre-op phase and I can look forward to 6 more sleeps till my surgery.

Who knew a liquid diet would seem so appealing. :P

You will never be more happy with broth than you will that first day you can. I hope I never have to feel deprived... ever ever again! (and I never will... unless that man wearing my jeans kidnaps me, and doesn't give me chocolate or salt :P .)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
