mary818 66 Posted April 21, 2012 Hi everyone, I'm new here. Just had my lap band surgery revised to roux-en-y gastric bypass on April 17th. Initially I lost 86 lbs with my lap band but the Lapband never worked for me, for the 3 years I had it all I did was vomit; which was what lead me to my journey to undergo the bypass. I had my surgery at NYU hospital; the wonderful Dr. Marina Kurian performed the surgery. All seems to be going well. Getting my fluids down, and in a minimal amount of pain. I do find sitting upright for any amount of time is a bit uncomfortable for me. And I feel very bloated with a lot of gas pain. How long did you guys experience this bloat/pain? When did you start feeling more like yourself as far as energy wise. Right now I just feel exhausted! Granted I did not sleep much at all in the hospital. I am looking forward to hearing everyone else's experience and words of encouragement. Thank you for reading this and giving me the opportunity to introduce myself. Looking forward to sharing my journey with you all! Best, Mary

mary818 66 Posted April 21, 2012 The pre-op this time around for me was a bit tougher. Believe it or not when I had the lap band there was no pre-op diet involved. I only had to do a one week pre-op liquid diet; it was tough as it was my fiancées birthday as well as another family bday party. But remembering I was doing this and being strict with myself so my surgery was safe and successful as possible helped me get through the tough cravings. It did get easier for me by day 3. My surgeon allowed 2 cups of fresh or steamed veggies a day which helped me feel satisfied. Don't worry you will make it through. I think the pre-op diet prepared me so much better for the post op life this time around. Hang in there and stay strong!
berniec 166 Posted April 21, 2012 Hi Mary, welcome to this awesome forum. My surgery date is April 23rd. Which is Monday. I am so nervous and excited. I don't know if that makes sense. I had to do the pre op diet for two weeks. I am also allowed to have veggies. I find that when I feel hungry I just drink something. So far I'm down 13 pounds. Good luck on your journey. I will keep everyone posted.
