Weird Cycles?

Recommended Posts

I'm on depo and have been for years. I haven't had a period in years. I got my last shot in mid May. I had a very light period that started 2 weeks post op (just what I needed on top of my pain issues) and lasted 5 days. I was shocked!!

My tubes have been tied for five years and this week I have taken two pregnancy tests! Where the hell is my period? I had a normal on last month. This month nothing! I'm not saying I miss it... Lord knows I'm fine not having one. But a little heads up from the doc would be nice! I'm assuming it has to do with the lack of eating and rapid weightloss.

Day 2 in the hospital' date=' my unscheduled period started and lasted for over 2 weeks. It was extremely heavy and seemed as if there was no end. Now, almost 1 month later, I feel like it is about to come back. I am on the pill, but I heard it was not as effective after gastric bypass.[/quote']

That's too long for a period.

Glad to see this thread! I was wondering about my weird cycles too! Before surgery I got my cycle about 3-4 times a year which was part of my infertility problem. I had two daughters using infertility drugs. Since surgery (12 weeks out), I have had 2 periods but feeling symptoms constantly. I have not been on birth control for 20 years because my husband and I both had infertility issues but now I am wondering if I should go on something? Really do not want to get pregnant within the 2 years and definitely not after that. I'm done with kids at 42!

If I were you, I would look into it. If you don't want to do the hormonal route, think about the coper IUD. So many people have become pregnant because all they needed was that weightloss. Not to mention if lack of estrogen was a factor, burning fat will fix that. It's a really good idea to look into it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
