I want to know if anyone out there has gotten pregnant after the surgery and how did it go? Are there complications with delivery? Or the pregnancy?

They say at least 2 here but they also say with the hormonal changes sometimes mistakes happen. I know u for sure wanna wait until your weight stabilizes...patience is always a virtue

Thanks everyone for the input. Here in lansing michigan at the hospital I go to they said 18 months. I think I could probably lose all the weight I need to, to be healthy enough to get pregnant in 18 months. And who knows I could start trying once 18 months hits and it could take me two years to conceive. I don't want to do anything to harm the baby that's for sure! Its devastating once you've been trying for so long and it isn't happening and its due to my weight...it makes me feel like a failure as a mom. I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone but...its just hard.

I was banded had lost like 80lbs when I got pregnant, I have not been able to lose the weight again and I'm now seeking to get the gastric bypass. The band has failed me and if your seeking to have weight loss surgery please do all your research, most people have to get it revised within 3 yrs.

Oh gosh! This is all starting to really scare me...I've done aton of research and this week I am attending a support group and will be attending about 6 more in the next 4 to 6 months before surgery. I don't want to make the wrong decision. The reason I am going with gastric bypass is because I heard you lose the weight alot faster than lap band. I think once I see the weight all coming off it'll motivate me to work even harder ...ecspecially after having a baby and needing to lose the weight then. I am so lucky to have a very supportive family that is willing to watch my daughter whenever I need to workout and my husband is not able to. My mom is always in weight watchers and works out 4 to 5 times a week so she keeps me very motivated.

If I had to do it again, I would of had my son first then once I was done having my babies (im done now- 3 boys) I'd have the surgery. I am back where I started before the band :(

I'm in Ontario Canada and my doctor told me to wait at least 18-24 months before trying. I definitely know how you feel. Im 32 and have been overweight my whole life. At 22 I was married and all I wanted was a baby and we tried and tried but it never happened. I think that definitely contributed to my weight gain which steadily climbed to 405 lbs. I ended up leaving my husband and got into not the healthiest of relationships Nd one day, bam, I was pregnant. It was by far the happiest day of my life. A day I waited 29 years to see. Now I have two boys. 3 and 1 and I definitely need this operation just to keep up with them lol. Been on my liquid diet for 21 days. 7 more to go and i have lost 25 lbs in that time. Life's great now and it's only gonna get better.

Oh wow krista! That's awesome! Good job and good luck with the rest of your journey. Its so good to hear other people doing so well. Congrats on the children :) is the liquid diet hard? Im nervous about that part. What exactly do u drink on a liquid diet? Like slim fast?

i had the lap band too and converted to gastric bypass. i lost 70lbs in 9 months with the lapband. but gained it back cuz its so easy to find ways around the band lol. i dont believe its true that most ppl need a revision after 3 yrs. if u mentally prepare yourself before u should do fine. its just a tool.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
